Gluin' canopy's

Merry Christmas ans Happy New Year folk's......
Gotta question for you, what is the best glue to use gluin' down canopy's or windshields without cuttin' a "ditch" in the top block, in this case top molded sheet.??

Hi Gil. I learned on here that a glue used by the RC community, called Cyber Bond- Cyber Plast 6, works great. So I got some and have used it 7 times so far. Only thing is, it is thick, so I store the bottle upside down. It reminds me of clear silicon bathroom calking. Probably is, LOL. It dries clear in about 12 hours. Of course humidity and temps will make this vary as well as how thick it is, but it is not instant by any means, so you must be sure to "fix" the canopy just where you want it with masking tape or "T" pins, etc. However, it is easy to cut so you can remove the canopy later with minimum damage to the basa underneath. Been there, done that.

I believe that Pacer/Zap has a canopy glue. (??) The old RC 56 glue was good, but I haven't seen it lately.
I still cut a groove in molded blocks, but usually not all the way through.

Not tryin' to be a scrooge, just confused...

What's with all the "Merry Christmas" wishes today? Last I looked, Christmas is still a few weeks away...

Now, I have to be a scrooge and disagree with everybody's answers so far. I've used most of the canopy glues and found that they disassociate with time, especially when oil gets on it. I had the canopy of my Sig Mustang come off in flight. It had been glued and filleted and still came off. I use epoxy exclusively now. I mark around the canopy with soft lead pencil for location. Then I test tape it to find out what holds best. Then I apply a tiny bead of epoxy to the canopy and carefully place it. I have the tape ready to hold it and thats it. I haven't had one come loose of get oil under it since I started using epoxy.

I only use epoxy also, but I always relieve the areas that the canopy sits in. I figure that even if I cut through the balsa it is being epoxied back to gether with the canopy in place.

I agree with Randy. I still have some RC-56 laying around, but I only use epoxy now. The epoxy doesn't dry clear, but I recess the masking tape a little and paint along the edge of the canopies now.

Whichever adhesive you use, don't forget to roughen up the edges of the canopy.
