Unknown Antique Engine

Can anyone put a name to this thing?

I'm pretty sure it's a Simplex .25. It's a SAM approved repro by John Morrill.

That's exactly what it is, Norm. John Morrill made a short run of these in the early '80s, before going on to his better-known Simplex Hornet .19 Ignition.
John's engines were beautifully made.

Check out eBay item 5941763544. The seller has a "buy now" price of $300. I don't think it will last long. John's engines were a labor of love, beautifully crafted and run well.

John is friend, and we're often in each others shop. He has spoken highly of you and your "Mate" project. John's latest project is a compressed air motor which is running very well.

Is the Simplex a repro or is it a new "vintage style" engine? I always thought the latter. I find it curious that U.S. SAM can approve one modern design, albeit of vintage style and performance, yet refuse to validate an engine like the M.P.Jet Classic 0.6cc, which is basically a repro of the Letmo 0.6cc internals in a beam mount case instead of the original radial mount case. (The Letmo is a genuine vintage era motor).

My recollection is that the Simplex .25 came from an old magazine article, giving plans and instructions for building your own engine. That magazine article was old enough to make replicas legit. What was the first year of mfg. of the Letmo .6cc, and what documentation is there? Those are the usual requirements. Steve

When this thread (is that the correct term?) first appeared, the picture also appeared on my screen aok. Hoever, now it doesn't. All I get is a large square, with a much smaller square at the top left hand corner, with a little red cross in it. If I right-click on the red cross I get some options including "show picture". I click on this and back comes the red cross.
Anyone know what's happening? I have Windows ME and the standard package that came with it.

Same with me, odd, it worked before.

I get no picture either but if I right click and then click on "view picture" I get a page saying the file no longr exists. Evidently where-ever the photo was hosted is off-line or the photo was deleted.

For some reason, all the pictures I posted are offline. I go into the file where they are stored, and everything is there. I have to see what the problem is.
