How do you store your airplanes?

Hi, I'm not flying that much now because of the weather getting cold and ugly. I'm building a Chief though so I will have a new plane coming! I'm just want to know what you guys store your planes over the winter when they don't get flown much. I'm thinking about building a rack that you just slide the plane onto that holds about 4 or 5 airplanes. I saw thats how Windy does it on ones of his tapes.

I hang mine by the leadouts over 2 nails in the floor joist of the basement.

Boy do I miss having a basement, they are very rare here in central FL, if you dig one it ends up as a swimming pool!

I have shelves I keep some of my airplanes on when Im not flying them for the bigger planes. I have a wing rack mounted down in the basement which can hold the smaller airplanes. And i just keep some of the other airplanes down in the basement or out in the garage somewhere.

ribbon lights. Looks cool when the room is dark. I used to have purple, but they burned out. These are kind of sea green (blue?) in the dark.
I also have a few planes hanging from bicycles suspended upside down in the garage. I'm afraid they won't last long, though. the kids are always running into them.

I use a rack such as you mentioned that is made out of 1/2 inc PVC pipe( schedule 40) and tee fittings. Cover the horizontal arms with foam pipe insulation or foam rubber sheet secured with tape.

Space the tee fittings along the vertical members to allow clearance for the planes landing gear and vertical fins.

I'll try and get a pic posted later.

I hang them by their horizontal tail feathers from a twin hook that sticks out from the peg board. No room for the racks, yet. I load the engine with air tool oil, wrap a baggie around the engine area to prevent oil dripping on things. Some stand on the outboard wing tip, in the way and get moved a lot. Too many planes, yet I have 6 in various forms of construction. Gotta catch up to Bill Little.

I use a pipe that runs the length of the basement. A piece of wire and hang the planes by the leadouts. I'd never have the room to have planes in racks or hanging on the walls. Theres 20 C/L and a few R/C and it's getting so I'm really cramped for space.
Oh well another one is on the table as I write this.

ALL of the above. Plus stacking with the nose and wingtip on the floor (make sure the LG don't puncture the plane behind it), in old chairs in the basement, in the attic, etc., etc.. Seriously.

Whatever method you use, if you leave them between flights as long as I seem to these days, cover them with some plastic sheet, or a large plastic bag. I'm amazed how much dust collects on them i you don't do this.

Actually the oil on the planes collects dust and acts as an air purifier for the house.

I sold this theory to my wife and you can too.

Unfortunatly, as this season ended I was able to just toss them in garbage bags and throw the whole mess in a corner!

Luckily a friend and fellow flyer took pity on me and tossed an old Brodak Lagg my way with instructions to "pass it on to the next unfortunate soul" who has flying season left over at the end of the airplanes!

There's new stuff on the way so all's not lost.
