McCoy HELP

Guys out there that are knowledgable on the McCoy red head stunt engines. Is the 40 engine rod the same as the 35 rod. I need a 40 rod and have a 35 that I can tear down if it is the same. I would hate to tear it down and find that it won't fit.

The 35 rod works. One of my RH 40s had 35 on the rod brand new, and one that I parts built has a 35 rod. Haven't torn down "all" of tehm but so far no problems. Pistons are definitely different! LOL!! Can't swear as to the cranks. (??)

A 35 crank will work in a 40. Theoretically they have the same stroke. But the "real" 40 cranks had a heavier counterbalance. Most of the Redheads and the first of the Series 21 40's had "real" 40 cranks. The later Series 21 40's just used 35 cranks, but again the stroke was the same.
However, if you would take a measurement on the stroke of various 35's and 40's, don't expect them to be what the published number was. I don't think "quality control" was a buzz word at the McCoy factory.

You are correct Bill, the 35 rod fits the 40 and the 29 Redhead McCoy.

I only have a "pizza box" McCoy 35...almost new...runs very well

and he was an expert flyer ;whipped a lot of people with it.

flew it to a top 10 finish at the nats.
Jim was quite a craftsman good flyer and all around nice guy
