3 little Foxes looking all forlorn

Well 2 35s and a 29. Are these OK for stunt? I got them cheap some years ago at a swapmeet and they look little used and in good nick. Any thoughts on "improvements? Tuning for stunt, etc would be a help

yeah Foxes are great for for stunt especialy if they are single!!
Oops wrong kind of foxes. seriously though foxes are great engines and yes there are mods you can make to the 35s a stuffer back plate and hemi head are very popular but most important is proper feul, use a feul that has at least 25% castor oil 28% is best and between 7 and 10% nitro don't wind them up to much they like to leave the ground at about 8600 rpm's, oh and breakin is very critical since yours are used lets hope they have been broken in right if they have you have a couple nice engines while not competetive on the highest levels they are great engines they do the classic 4 2 4 break and with the right model will give you a good platfom for stunt as for the 29 I don't have any experience but there are guys here that do.

Those are not the "Stunt" versions, but I understand that they will run the high rpm/low pitch prop set up pretty good, just not a good 4-2.

Which Foxes? Bacially if the have round intakes they're stunt engines, if they have square intakes they're combat engines.

These are the '70s "35" and "29" with the 4 bolt back plates, and the tall head fins.
I never knew them to be good 4-2 engines. (??)
I right clicked the red X in the box, saved the info under "properties", put that in my browers and went to the picture.

Yep. I was never impressed with the straight 36's and 29's. Not enough juice to make good combat engines, and too inconsistent (fast) for stunt. It does look like somebody went to a lot of trouble on one of those - sawed off the cast venturi, and put in a turned venturi and o-ring. They might do a lot better with proper venturi's.

Never considered they were the later ones, couldn't see the pictures at work. I have a .36 and it runs well but not as a stunt run, I imagine the .29s are the same. Fair power and I'm sure they'd make decent sport engines.

i assumed they were 3 bolt backcovers....as long as you didnt get a tapered crank pin or tapered rod end ...those were the one that seemed to never want to break in...like the one ted got at the 59 nats...they were fixable...i think i may have fixed a few for friends....i would never let Hi catch me doin that....pow~~~~~~~~~~~~> zooooooooooooooommmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!

Rather than try to turn a sows ear into a silk purse, why not just get a more suitable stunt engine? The OS 40 or 46LA or Brodak 40 come to mind. Much less frustration and cheaper in the long run.

They were originally built as slow combat engines. They pulled a Nemessis 105 at the nats in 72? I lent Howard Rush my slide rule to calc the speed.

Like the 35 stunt these can be real vibrators. Maybe even a bit worse than the 35 stunt. I've tried a couple on profile ships and couldn't get an even run which I attributed to(possibly incorrectly) the vibration foaming the fuel.

The one with the venturi was an RC unit that they stuck a venturi in for CL. They used to just cut the venturi part off and bolt the RC carb on. This ones been to RC and back.

I'd say if you are going to put them on an ARF flight streak or, something like that, you might have some fun with them. Good trainer/beginner engines. If you want something for a nice airplane that you might enter in a contest, I would get something better.

i havent built a stunt plane in a while..my last effort was a 60" tbird that wieghed 34 ozs...any good 35 would pull that...i dont know anything about newer engines...and forgot most of what i knew about the old ones...a johnson,a good fox 35(3bolt),a mcCoy35(any of em),or a veco 35 would be a suitable stunt engine....k&bs were marginal..ok if u wanna go fast...Jack Ivey(had to put the old man 1st...he was the problem solver),Hi Johnson and myself(i helped too)lol...we must have have made the best stunt engine ever...johnsons are still highly prized today...jim

I got one and half of these critters, too. Waiting for adoption.

Well That what I thought. I have plenty of good stunt engines - a couple of Brodak 40s a couple of Fox 40s one ex GMA (allegedly) and one sorted by Lew Wollard. but I did just wonder if these were worth working on or should I put them on Ebay.
Edit: Forgot the Eyna 46, the unrun 3bolt 1957 Fox35 and the Stalker 35 that I was flying today on my JD Falcon (the MAN one not the good one)
