Shipping experience from England

Just HAD to have one of those 20 fp's.

But the one I got was a Thunder tiger. Should be the same unit. Problem was, I bid on one for up to 15 dollars and I won it. It's on the other side of the pond. REMEMBER to READ next time you look at a listing.

Whats the cheapest way to get something from England to here?

USPS Parcel post, It shouldn't be to exspensive to ship from the UK as long as you don't need it overnight.

Air letter post. Should cost you about $8. Maybe more because of exchange rate.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I got an early torp green head from Australia off ebay a while back and it only took about 6-7 days to get it here.

Have not heard from the seller yet, he may check his mail once a day who knows. He had advertised 3pound in England and one post had said 5 pounds to france. I looked at the USPS site I believe but couldn't figure out to get it from there to here. Granted I didn't look to hard. Will wait for his communication, his rating on the bay is 99% positive so I'm not worried about integrety.

I've sold several engines to modelers in the UK. 4 to 7 day air post is in the $6 to $9 range for 40 sized engines.
Only a buck or two or three higher than USPS Priority mail

A new item, sold by a distributor or retailer, is viewed differently than an item sold by someone who was originally a retail customer. Personal sales vs commercial?

I imagine that most of the items sold through the auction or forum sites are "personal sales", and can be listed as "used" on the declaration forms. That may help in many cases, e.g., sending a PAW for factory work in UK (although WHY one would, with Eric Clutton --Dr Diesel -- here in USA, is beyond me.)

I sold an ebay item to a guy in England.

I weighted the item before the auction and checked the price from Detroit to LA. It was $8.50. The cheapest way I could ship to England was USPS at $23. UPS and Fed Ex wanted $82 & $102.

Offshore shipping COSTS, espeically if the item is heavy.

Fox 40 1972 CL Lew Wollard Reworked with muffler = $9.85
Enya 45 + spare crankcase = $8.70
Brodak 40 NIB = $15.00 (Ebay)
Brodak 40 NIB = $10.00 (not Ebay)
Fox 40 (GMA chromed) = $22.60 insured air - I really wanted this engine but it would have been $12.15 uninsured

All of the above were uninsured except for the GMA Fox40 all made it OK

EDIT : only 2 of the above attracted customs duty and VAT (the Fox35 and the GMA Fox40)

UPS and FED-EX always attract customs duty and VAT and a special charge for extracting the money!

I bought a bunch, maybe 150, Aeromodeller mags from England on eBay for @ $50. They were heavy enough that the cheapest way to send them cost $70. More than I hoped, but I still got a good deal.
