ST V 60

A friend of mine asked a question that I can't answer so I will post it here.
He bought a ST V-60 and it weighed 12 oz. They are advertised as weighing 11 oz. Is there heavier and lighter versions from early and late production? Mis-calculations? erronious advertising? What is the deal here?

I weighed two that I had. They are both older models without the muffler lugs, but complete otherwise with venturis, plug, etc. One weighed 11.88 ounces, the other 12.04. Don't know why the difference, as they look pretty much the same otherwise, but neither of these was close to 11 ounces.

My early version (no muffler flanges, thin liner) weighs 11.746 oz without a venturi, but with plug and NVA. And by the way, the
price on the box was $44.95! But I got it NIB for $100 and it was a bargain at that. As far as weight differences on Leonard's examples, that's kinda strange. I would guess they might have come from different batches at least, perhaps the case was from a different die. All metal alloys have tolerances on the percentage
of composition, and then there is always some porosity. The discrepancy with the factory data is not unusual, they ARE R/C engines, and weight is of little concern to them. Now some engines are weighed with the muffler, and some without. Both would be useful info to list! Steve

I've weighed several different engines and found them all to be about an ounce heavier than advertised. Others have been pretty close.
