Impact kits

Hello out there to everyone.

I hope this isn't considered an advertisement. We at Ultra Hobby Products are currently having the prototype Impact kit laser cut. As soon as I get the guts of it together to make sure everything fits correctly we will begin producing kits. The reason for this post is to find out the level of interest to see how many we should produce in our first run. Price will be about $210 - $225 and will include all laser cut parts, hardware, ply building jig pieces, and a reprint of the Flying Models article. Will the plans show how to make the model as take apart like the magazine plans had and all ribs? I assume it will have a built up wing?

You can show the new kit in the New Products section of the Dallas Stunt Forum, Feb 16th. Take apart airplanes will be one of the topics, so this will fit in great.

Hey, Steve says it includes the engine, pipe, prop, spinner, tank, wheels, lines, handle, all the fuel you will ever need, and flying lessons every week until you make the top 20 at the nationals

You forgot the nice new shiny van carry it around in and a gas card with all the gas you will ever need to go to all the big contests all around the nation. Resevations and food at all major events. Plane Tickets to the worlds and all inclusive accomodations.

Sounds good at 215 but a stretch at 225.

Steve has completley redrawn the plans because the original was a foam wing plane and this kit will have laser ribs. The construction is pretty much the same as Paul did it. It will have a copy of the flying models article that Paul wrote about this plane and all of its evolution. I THINK it will include a copy of the original plans but dont quote me on that. The Original plans show it as a take apart plane. The ones Steve redrew do not show it as take apart.

TomN I dont know if they will have the first prototype kit by the time the Stunt Forum is here but I am sure if they do Steve can bring it up for show.

No, the plans for the kit will not show how to make it a take apart. The plans from the May 91 issue of Flying Models show that. This will be a built up wing, though. The kit will include a reprint of the article from FM, but not the FM plans. The kit will also include ply building jigs as in the article. These will be laser cut, also. To those of you who have e-mailed me with interest, thank you, and I will e-mail you back when the kits are ready.

I have just finished the Impact laser cut kit prototype this morning. It came out at 62 oz. with an OS 40 VF and pipe. My target weight was 60 oz., so I got pretty close. The kits are being cut as I type this, and Tom Morris is putting together the control package; which will include a 4" bellcrank, flap horn, elevator horn, tip weight box, adjustable leadout guide, preassembled carbon fiber pushrods, and #87 ball links. The kit will also include laser cut ply building jigs, and a reprint of the May '91 Flying Models Impact article. It will sell for $220.00 on this run of kits; but may be more on the next run, as wood prices seem to be cosntantly going up.

COOL PLANE!!!

I saw the new IMPACT fly yesterday.Did a pattern on the first flight.It flys smooth and clean with flat bottoms. Good going Steve! It it very pretty in the air and has stunt ship written all over it.Get this, He did all of this in 5 and a half weeks.Says something about the laser cut kits!-UMAN

Very controllable airplane capable of extremely tight corners, comes out flat though. Good job Paul. Very good job Steve.

Those pictures only kind of do it justice, the protoype model is really beautiful! The clear coat is incredible!

I plan on building an Impact with a Saito 72.

The Impact is a great airplane.

I have seen many fly including Pauls at the Nats. You are right that it is capable of extreme corners that stop right where you want them to. I understand that they fly just as well with a 4S even with the CG a lot more forward than shown on the original plans.

I have observed that, but I don't understand it.
