I have not even been on here for some time.
I browse for pictures occasionally but I honestly get tired of the constant arguing. I have enough non-sense and B.S. in my daily life, I do not need it here...

That being said, I do have multiple friends who use this and thought they may want to see what I have been slowly working on.

Oriental - My good friend Derek Barry loves his so I decided to build one, I have painted it with automotive "rattle cans" both primer and white, i am going to trim it with something bright, it is getting a magnum .36

Aeroproduct Satona - Foam Wing, Randy design, Curt has done pretty darn good with his, again Derek and I have talked about this a lot, it is the brother to the staris and the shrike. PA40, Aero Pipe, Bolly prop etc.

Satona again - this foam wing is UNREAL, so incredibly light, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this to anyone! I like it so much I got a foam wing and stab for an sv22 You can't argue with Randy's stuff!

Looks like your off to a good start, er,ah, I mean finish. I like the design of the Satona. Whats the W/S on that one?

the satona is around 630ish, it is Randy Smith at Aeroproducts design so he could be more helpful in that respect.
it was perfect made for the pa40

SATONA by Randy Smith 57.5 inch SV for 40 thru 51 engines
I got that from Randy's site.
Here is a picture of Curt Contrata's fine example, I can guarantee his looks somewhat better than mine will.

Aron, I'm also building a Satona I need to install the rudder,a wing tip, build the cowl and sand, sand, sand. The plane should be ready for dope in October no sweat.
I figure 60 ounces (or 62) with an OPS .40 I can't wait.

Hi John,
I know Aaron is shooting for around 50-52 oz., RTF.
Pretty sure he is going to use 2 part Dupont Chroma Base automotive paint. That stuff really seems to come out light. It only took a touch over 4 oz. of mixed light green to paint my Argus. One coat complete coverage.
It IS coming out pretty light.

Been using chroma base for years on motorcycles. I am now using it on my planes. Everything seems to be light except for the choma clear. I purchased some reducer for it the other day and it cuts the normal build up quite a bit and still has a glossy finish.

Hey, Lee!
What's the part number on the reducer you got for the Chroma Clear?
I have been thinking of getting some of the 2-1 clear, I've heard it comes out lighter.
Just got to get the "bucks" to get some.
Thanks,
Bill <><

I'm glad to see you are getting some building done. Your new stunters are looking good.
Hope to see you on the contest trail.

That sounds good Bill however in my case 52 is doubtful. I'm not wanting to be disapointed so in advance 60.

Hi John,
Wasn't meaning to "demean" your weight!
Aaron used some VERY good wood. (seems my stack of good wood is getting a LOT smaller )
Derek Barry's and Gene Martine's Staris (brother to the Satana) are well into the upper 50's and fly great on the PA 40.
Of course, Curt Contrada's Sat'o'na is only 48. (the plans have an 'a', not an 'o' ??)

No Bill, there are a few of my planes that make what I call a good weight most of my planes are heavy . I am finding what George Aldrich and Randy Smith have told me in the past....."the most important part is to match the plane with a prop" & " you need a prop that will fly the plane & the ENGINE must be able to turn the prop properly, the engine doesn't fly the plane the prop flies the plane".
Yes again I am guilty of mispell often (I didn't go to Yale)

i am so very insane when it comes to building stuff like that
i use the lightest wood i can find then i sand it and hollow it probably to the point of uselessness sometimes.
the geoxl i have been flying came in at a little under 60oz, it is about 720sq inches (geobolt wing) and it flies pretty good but it is just to big for me, i feel like i am fighting it, in the hands of a pro i am sure it would fly great. i was happy because i built it so light and it has actually stood up pretty well, it flew into a hill at brodak (doh!) and really doesnt show to many scars from doing so.

anyway we will see how light it is, if it comes in under 55oz i will be happy. if not i will still be happy just paranoid and happy bahahaha....

I'd be interested to know the weight of the Satona wing if possible. (What state of finish? - sheeted? - with/without flaps? controls? etc. in order to get accurate appreciation).
