BOM and pretty points

I did answer Keith and Dirt but maybe better a new posting as some of you may not look at the other one. Since there are about 37 different ways to do something, here is just one of them. Should we have appearance points any longer? I think not. There was a time when they were needed but no longer. I think most of us have enough pride in our models to do the very best we can. I propose the following: Award best in class 1st thru 3rd in each class, i.e., nov, adv and expert. Athe Nat's level there will also be an overall best in show with two runnerups. This will actually make the judges job easier and take less time. The incentive to make a nice plane is that all 1st place winners and best in show get their entry fees automatically covered for the following years Nats. This would only apply to Nats contestants, not local or regional events. I do believe that PAMPA should have no problem covering this and if it does pose a problem, I would do it myself. None of the judging criteria would change, meaning the same quality judging would have to take place. On a local level, all the above would apply except for the entry fee change. As for the BOM rule, one statement would be added to a contestants score sheet or sign in card and would read "I blank-blank, have built and/or constructed at least 51% of the model entered at this event." Since we all are honorable people I see no difficulty with this. If a contestant wishes to use other than his own model, there will be an automatic 50% reduction in his/her score. After all is said and done, we now have a heads-up aerobatic contest and may the best flyer win! As a footnote, the FAI world champs (full-size aircraft) pilots very seldom build their own planes, ala Patty Wagstaff, etc. Ok guys, tell me why this will or will not work. Alfadawg
