Paint Compatibility

Guys,

I seem to have lost my paint compatibility chart when I moved. Does anyone know if Rustoleum is compatable over Lusterkote?

I've never sprayed it over Lustercoat, but I've sprayed it over all sorts of other things without a problem. Rustoleum is enamel based & will go over nearly anything without a reaction. But it doesn't work the other way, don't try dope or any lacquer based material OVER Rustoleum or you'll have a mess! When I have to repair something painted in Rustoleum I use PPG water base primer. You can put water base primer over anything without a problem. It sands great & you can spray just about anything over it, including more Rustoleum.

Question about PPG water-based primer. Automotive finish? Available in spray cans? How is it distributed, consumer accessible retail outlets? Specific product name?

Yes, the WB primer is for cars. I'd have to look at the can to get you a PN but you should be able to buy it at any autobody supply store that carries PPG products. Just ask for waterbase primer. It's non toxic & hardly has any smell so I don't think there's any reason they shouldn't sell it to anybody that wants some. It can be brushed on but I generally spray it. Great stuff. I'm afraid I have no idea how much it costs. Working in a body shop does have a few advantages, my boss lets me use what I need.

I have an airplane I restored with Lusterkote white with Rustoleum trim. I've been flying it for a month now without any troubles at all.
