Is anyone familiar with MVVS 5.6 A stunt engine (rear induction) circa 1957 and later radio control version. What I would like to know is if there are any significant differences in engine parts or is it a case of simply putting an r/c carb on the original design.

Hi Colin,

There was a discussion of this engine on another board a few weeks ago.
Seems the MVVS 5.6 from 1958 that was used by the USSR team was a very short run. Josef Gabris used one in his "Master" to win the 1958 Criterium de Aces. That seems to be the first time one was "seen". Only ~20 were made of that engine. Just a "special made run" for the team based on the MVVS .29 speed engine. (don't know what "cc" that is!) There was a review in Aero Modeller several years later ('65???) when engine #19 was obtained and reviewed. I have the article but I took it to work to copy it. I also have two or three other articles on that engine.

Externally, the later 5.6 looks identical except for the exhaust butterfly, and later muffler attachment. Plus the R/C carb of course. Can't say about the internals.

Ian Russell knows something about them.

Hello, thanks for the info. Seems MVVS were good at making small batches of special motors. Which other forum was the engine discussed on ? I wonder if the 5.6 AL (front induction )was as good. I have one but use stalker.
Colin.

I wondered where this post went to! Have checked a couple of things. First, these engines come from the period when r/c engines were just beginning to appear. At this time it was simply a case of sticking an r/c carb on an existing c/l motor, so the internals are the same. For the finicky among us, we have identified two (there may be more, who knows?) different castings for the motor with the web in the exhaust duct. The difference is where the exhaust duct blends into the transfer area. There are what can be called a couple of little "shoulders" level with the duct on one type.
I haven't pulled an original 5.6A or a 29 yet. I do have a couple of 29's, one with the venturi at top right corner, the other at bottom right corner, as viewd from behind. Both are angled. On the 15, this was the external difference between the 1958 and 1959 model. The rotor on the '58 was tufnol. and on the '59 it was cast iron I believe.
