I unfortunately broke the tip off the crankshaft that holds the prop on my .15 RJL/Conquest this morning. I am now placed with the task of trying to find a new one. Does anyone know anywhere to get parts for this engine? I could use a case as well but the old one with work if one is not available.

Any help would be great,
Thank you,

I used to run these in F2D. Probably have some parts around if you are interested. I will take a look and see what I have left.

If Pat can't help you I have a parts motor that I think has a crank in it you can get from me. Price will be pretty cheap as it is just sitting around.

Folks will need to tell you if the original Conquest that I have will work in the RJL one.

email me off the board at [email protected]

I have several original Cox Hobbies Conquest .15 Crankshafts NIB .... If you still want one let me know with a PM. Be forwarned that these NIB (New in original Cox Box) c/shafts are of collector desirable quality, thus the price will not be cheap.

You can still get parts from Mecoa which is what I would recomend. Some of those early cranks were kinda soft. Any mods at all and it would snap like a twig at the intake port. Also, the wrist pin would break out of the piston so, check your wrist pin fit. If you're using it for sport/stunt you shouldn't have any problems.

I remember seeing Paul Smith break one at the end of a match. MACA Nats in Detroit, IIRC, don't remember the year. Engine noise stopped but the prop kept turning. "Hey man, I think you broke your crank." Turns prop by hand.. "Aw man..."

I don't recall that specific incident, but I can remember lots of Conquest crank failures, in numerous modes:

Crankpin broke.
Aluminum stuffing band comes loose.
Crank breaks at intake port.
Prop stud.

I managed to scientifically derive a Conquest mortality chart:

100 MPH - unlimited.
102 MPH - 12 to 20 runs
104 MPH - 3 to 5 runs.

The problem is in the materials. The answer is in Zelinople.

Giffy,

I seem to remember that when K&B replaced their own .15 with the Conquest some parts were changed. IF this is true, which parts, if any, of the K&B/Mecoa will not fit the old Cox version.

I have the old Cox version (the RC one).

Can you drill & tap the crankshaft for a stud. I have an Enya 60 done that way.

A lot of people didn't realize the Fox Combat Special (at least the Mark IV) used a separate stud. So what some people did was remove the stud and used a titanium bolt in its place. To save some weight, don't you see.... (some people..)

Robert,If you have any questions on the Conquest 15 I will be glad to help. There were 2 different cranks made for this engine and also 3 differnet rods.I dont know if RJL is using the Forged rod that we made when I was at cox or the machined rod that K&B made,The problem with all of the cranks is that they got brittle with age and if you dont heat up the thread end with a tourch the same thing will happen again.
You also need to remove the aluminum cover on the crank that holds in the counter ballance weights and use a hard setting lock tight and glue it back on then put it in a lathe and true it up.
I helped design and develope this engine when I was at cox and after I left built these engines for over 10 years and shipped them all over the world. Some people like RJL try to take credit for something they had nothing to do with and mill of the COX name on the case and put there own! If you would like to send me your engine I will go thru it at NO CHARGE. If anyone else on this site has any questions about the CONQUEST 15 just ask. You can email me at [email protected] If you dont know who I am just Larry Renger or Dale Kirn.

The COnquest 15 R/C came stock with a perry carb that had a .240 bore and we later changed the Perry Carb to a .240 Venturi for R/C Quarter Midget.

I have several of Ron's engines from my F2D days and they run! I have never had a problem with any of them either. It pays to have someone that knows what they are doing to work on these motors. Steve Fauble
