To Bob Baldus and ALL the hard working folks that make The Polk City contest happen, a huge THANKS! This is always a great meet with lots of competition, great judging, a beautiful site, and wonderful people.

To that, add this years incredibly fine weather (70 degrees, sunny, and winds less than 10 all weekend), then add a couple of great get-togethers Friday and Saturday nights at the local steak houses, and it makes for a weekend thats mighty tough to beat.

Now, if I can quit running out of fuel it'll be perfect!

Jeff: Is the Tempest still in one piece? You gotta be tired of repairing it. LOL

That was my thought. I saw the Tempest splat at Tucson. I wondered if it would be repaired or given over as an organ donor in favor of new construction.

My buddy Nils is just about done with his Tempest and has a lot of help from Jeff as he's worked on it.

Minor damage: a stress crack in the lower covering and the stab cracked in the fuselage. Both easy fixes, especially since it has not been refinished yet (and it is "butt ugly" as it is).

It's flying just great!

I decided to come to the Polk City contest the last minute. I flew only a few times last year and had 2 flights this year. My planes were way out of trim and yet I can’t remember when I have enjoyed my self more. What a great hobby. What great people.

Right on the Iowa divide.

Indoor plumbing,,,,
Free lunch,,,,
Combat was allowed, but kept 1/4 mile away behind tree line,,,
Eight 18-hole golf courses with 12 miles,,,

The coupe' da grass: Individual pit lanes assigned to each contestant and numbered for his exclusive use.

Gary Hajek and myself have traveled twice to Polk City and enjoyed each day of each event. Of course, the snow on Sunday last year was but a cool culmunation to a very well cut field and the warmth of friends in mid Iowa.

We look forward to returning next year and are in the midst of planning the trip now.

Great job to all who worked so hard to make the weekend in Polk City so memorable.

More fuel, and you either need platform shoes, or maybe scout out some fields where the ground is about two feet lower, or...
