I don't know if this means a lot, but recently I read where some sort of fuel-cell, using methanol as the fuel, is bound to alter our very existence.

Or something like that...

Seriously, the story goes that even lithium batteries clunk out too soon, but there is a lot more energy available for lap-top computers and the like if this fuel cell is used.

Again, methanol is the magic ingredient.

There was talk of soon being able to buy small vials and/or bottles of methanol just as one can buy batteries today, and from the same sources.

Also talk of allowing methanol to be carried on airliners.

Does this come into play for air transport of models? My understanding is that our tanks, once contaminated with fuel, can be readily detected during pre-flight inspection.

But if methanol is allowed, and one rinses his tank(s) thoroughly with methanol...?

I'm surprised the electro flyboys aren't pounding down their doors.
At a guess the voltage is 2 v. So it puts out 50 ma for 20 hours. With a little of the LiPoly magic to get the current up that gives you around 3000 mah in a 12-15 gr. package. the battery would weigh about what the motor does, which would be a heck a lot better power to weight ratio than any model engine except a few of the F2D types.

I listen to both NPR and Rush Limbaugh...I find myself doing a lot more mumbling of epithets under my breath when listening to NPR. Hmmmm.

According to his drug/doctor-shopping plea bargain, Rush will be required to perform periodic pee checks and faithfully remain in his rehab program. Let's hope he has better faith to his rehab than he did his most recent mail order bride.

So if you can power a fuel cell using methanol, then what kind of mileage can we expect going from 5% to 10% nitro? And do we go with a 4.5" pitch prop on our Hondas or a 5" pitch?

Ah, yes. That last line cleared up a few things for me. Thanks. I think...

So... the pilot can drink some alky, get juiced and then
juice his plane? Could require a rules change needed for electric
stunters regarding the starting and takeoff, so the judges could
score approprietly.
