Hi guys,

I would like to duplicate the Flitestreak electric setup as described by Rick S. in previous threads. I cannot find the "Typhoon 2912/10" motor for sale on the 'Net in the USA. Would anybody have the motor constants available so's I could match it up to one of the more common motors? There must be one of the many in the Hobby Lobby catalog that matches.

Son Mikey became disgusted with my inability to get consistent motor runs so we went back to free flight for our model fix. I am definitely no engine guy! Even with my Pinto motored pickup it has become too expensive to drive 100 miles each way to play with toy planes. When I mentioned that they had viable electric control line planes he thought that was great.

We always liked the people at the Basin, look for us to return to the circles this summer!

John,

You might as well go directly to Rick Sawicki for this one. He has a large variety of electrics and will be able to give you a source or substitute for that motor.
He is registered here as RickS and you can find him in the profiles
section on this forums main page.

Hi John,

You can purchase the Typhoon 2912/10 at... Warbirds-RC.com...they are in the USA and currently show the motor in stock at $53.00. There are also charts for the constants on their site if you still need them. Best of luck with your flight Streak. Rick Sawicki

Hi Frank, Rick,

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I found the motor at that website and ordered one. Also have ordered the rest of the stuff as you described.

What is the AUW of the Flitestreak, ready to fly? I thought that the ARF version was really too light in the front end for gas. I added some plywood doublers past the leading edge to stiffen up the nose. At least that was my explanation, really was a crash repair. Hope that won't make it too heavy for electric.

Will let you know of progress.

Hi John,

Ready to fly weight is 26 oz. This included a 2 wheel landing gear (with super light wheels) so I can fly it by myself thru use of the timer delay in the ZIGRAS timer. I did not add extra nose reinforcement since its not needed with electric. The TP 2100 battery can be moved forward if you desire a nose heavy balance point. Keep the weight down for best performance. Hope all this helps. I sure you'll really enjoy your venture into electric control line and you'll soon be looking forward to your "next one".

Rick,

Thanks. I ordered the motor on Thursday about noon from Warbirds-RC and it arrived in the Friday mail! Really is a beautiful piece of work. Now to get some connectors, a speed control and batteries. Got them on order and a timer from Windy on the way.

I'm not sure about the weight of the Flitestreak; haven't taken it down from the rafters yet. I've designed and am building an R/C plane to try out the system before we put it on lines. If there are any inflight problems they are much easier addressed when you have more altitude and can throttle back. My main concern is balancing the power required for decent flight with the battery drain.

I do not want Mikey to get discouraged again. He really has a talent for control line. We want to show up at the field with a system that works. There is a real learning curve here. This stuff is too expensive to just throw it in the air and hope for the best.

Thanks again,

Thanks again Rick,

I'm using this forum instead of personal emails because I think others may be interested in this thread; hope that is OK. I'll chart my learning curve and mistakes so others won't repeat them. As I said before, this stuff is too expensive for my usual WAG approach. Jump in anybody if you have something to say.

Speed control, charger and batteries arrived in today's mail. Now to figure it all out.

I'll have more later, now to the shop to build that plane!

I'm going to leave the speed control in it's default setting till I get the timer.
