BOM Rules

Gang --

You know, one of the things that annoys me is the BOM rule. When I was 13 and starting to compete, I had to compete against "Daddy-built" airplanes, when I had no choice but to build my own. That was some 50+ years ago, when "ARF" was the way her dog "Sandy" addressed "Little Orphan Annie."
Now, combat planes are made mostly on the shores of the Ural river. If I were commissioner of the PGA tour, I would insist that pro golfers built their own golf clubs, in the tradition of Old Tom Morris.
ARFs are OK, but I don't see the point of competing if you don't do some construction on the model you use. It is a dual sport -- inventive design and construction, then pilot skill.
Just wrote this to make sure you know I am an old curmudgeon. Feel free to debate. I still remember the "Daddy-Built" planes.

Wish I'd had a Daddy Built plane. I've built every plane I've flown. Some would certainly have benefitted from help, that's certain. But I learned a lot along the way. Still am.

Hey, it's been well established here. People believe what they believe about this subject. We can discuss it again for 200 posts, but in the end, people will believe what they believe. Some will favor for all the reasons that have been stated here a thousand times and some will be for eliminating it. Again, for all the reasons that have be stated and re-stated here a thousand times. It's one of those issues that folks opinions are set in stone and unlikely to be swayed by reason or argument. So I agree. No real reason to beat it to death yet again.

You are correct! Sorry I brought it up. It is just an old thorn in my side. I said I was a curmudgeon!
By the way, the PGA tour is doing quite well without my advice! Verplank builds his own clubs, not much to his benefit.

Let's kill this thread or let it die a natural death, OK?

Since we are not in a rules change cycle and proposals to kill it have not been accepted in the past two cycles, let's just put this to rest.
