MARVEL MYSTERY OIL

I raced a Serpant road car years ago & would use Marvel Mystery Oil for "after-run" oil. I also use it in small amounts in both crancase & 110 octane gas in my Honda XR650L "Thumper", fully tricked.
Never had a problem with same. Recently, I can't recall where, I read a post on a forum where the after run oil they used was "Marvel Mystery Oil" air tool specification. I run a CNC mill and use die grinders all day and also use "air-tool" oil in areas of my machine, not Marvel however.
Was this individual just referring to good old fashioned "Marvel Mystery Oil", as air tool oil, or do they make that as well?

Yeah, so I've heard. Never, ever seen it, although I suspect Prather After-run Oil is Marvel. Where can I get it at a reasonable price, say, by the quart???

Marvel makes an air tool oil. It seems to be a mix with another oil. I used straight marvel for a long time but the air tool type doesn't disapate/disperse like straight marvel. I got mine at car parts store and have seen it at Sears.

Sears has small bottles of Marvel brand oil. They did have a Sears brand in a much larger bottle. Im not sure if the Sears type had Marvel in it but it was red and had a Marvel scent.

Most any auto parts store have or can get you Marvel Air Tool oil

You can also buy air tool oil at Home Depot

I sometimes use Marvel Mystery Oil as afterrun oil short term. Long term I have found it to form a hard red gunk. I have not used the air tool oil, but it is widely recommended. I usually use Rislone and have stored engines for years with no problem.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil for everything BUT after-run oil. It's great on ice cream!

I use Marvel Mystery AIR MOTOR OIL as an after-run oil and have never had any corrosion or long term seize-ups. I also use it in my lawn eguipment, outboards, motor bikes, and motorcycles when winterizing.

The big thing about MMAMO is its resistance to emulsification.

Not to hijack this thread.....but using any after run oil is a good idea....I don't know how many guys I've seen just clean up the airplane with no attention whatsoever given to their engines...."RUST NEVER SLEEPS"

Would ANY Air Tool or Compressor oil work? I can't get the Marvel variety, but I can get gallons of some off-brand stuff that's supposed to be used in compressors. About US$10 a gallon.

Most any air tool oil should be pretty good as you want something that will not evaporate and leave a gummy deposit (or worse) and that also has anti rusting agents in it. The Marvel Air Tool Oil (nor Marvel Mystery Oil) is tested and true and fits the bill perfectly. It also does not mess up the starting as do a lot of auto type oils.

Compressor oil is different from air tool oil. Most air tool oils will work and MMATO is a proven choice.

You can find the Marvel Mystery Air Tool Oil in most O'Reilly Auto Parts stores and of course at mine, Parts Plus.....
4 oz bottle part # MM080 normaly less than $2, 32 oz bottle part # MM085, around $5 to $6

I should take a picture of what passes for an auto parts store around here... though, I must admit, they have pretty much all the auto parts I've ever needed to buy off them..

Mac Tools also carries Marvel air tool oil on there trucks.I have always bought it in quart jugs.

MM oil will dry out as will rislone. Best to use good old ATF mixed with naptha to flush engine. Just run off a couple of primes and it flushes out the castor and leaves everything coated with ATF.
