Too wet here at North Richmond to think about flying today. May get there for Classic on Monday if it clears.

C'mon Leonard! What makes you think I have any idea how Photoshop works!

"The Handle"? In 1976 Les McDonald asked us if we had ones which also came with toolboxes attached as well! You see, this type is the flying handle and winding reel all in one. Jim Mannall (UK) converted me to your "normal" ones all those years back......... but sometimes things don't move very quickly in the southern penal settlement!

Will a top hat get more points? The rim will offer some shade or keep the water out of ones eyes.

Wats the weather like in Sydney? Up here is the Hunter Valley is is raining, we need the rain. Typical Queens Birthday long weekend.

To our overseas readers the Queen was born in April but each state has a day off at different times of the year. NSW is the first weekend in June. Uaually it is cold.

Great pictures! Your fellows certainly look spiffy. P'raps our gentlemen might consider comparable attire.

On second thought, maybe not. I have a feeling that if asked to "dress" for the event, my boys would break out the clown suits.

I did miss going to the F2B this year but I think my hands were still warmer even though they were covered in soluable oil for much of the time.

Yep..

Saito 72 with a Brian Eather 14 x 5" Undercambered prop doing about 8,350 rpm - 12% nitro, 0.275" Venturi & 3mm dia spray bar, using about 100ml of fuel for a 6 min engine run. About 5.1 - 5.2 sec laps & just great! Pity the model is a little heavy at 67oz. 1st day was perfect for flying, just a little wind drift, cloud cover and the light rain didn't both us too much. The 2nd day of the Championships the Wind was nothing short of 'Gale' force. The model didn't lose line tension anywhere however but it was just a 'fly to survive' round - LOVE those 4 strokes!! Reg Towell - one of our top flyers - (who has a 50 yr long illustrious flying career) decided not to complete his last round due to the wind - he says that this was the First time EVER he had to abort a flight soley due to the wind!!
Unfortunately the Penguin suit didn't have any positive effect on the Judge I was trying to impress - I may as well as dressed as a Turkey - but as you can see by the photo 'touched up' by HH he already had the well used head piece at his home!

Had it for use on another well known flyer Bruce! He had feathers which made his wings just that too long!! Just didn't get around to getting it together for that one, but hey!! Never let a chance or two go by.

That is exactly what I love so much about my 72. It cuts thru wind like nothing I have ever owned. A local friend and flyer here in Socal flew my plane and his response was, "it's like there is no wind". The miserable speed up and slow down you normally get flying into and behind the wind with typical 40's seems to disappear with the 72.

I cant remember who it was, but I remember someone years ago.. Ballarat Nats, 1994, I think Was flying in a Tux, with a matcing Black and white plane..... He didnt get extra points either. Looks good!

Sorry you couldn't make it - weather for the first day for flying was pretty good - if it wasn't for the rain, although you didn't miss a thing for the gale that arrived for Sunday!

I recall 'that' person wearing a Tux years ago had a female helper dressed similarly, didn't he? It all adds to a little fun against the background of seriousness (which you can see by my expression when flying! - ERgh)

Joe P didn't make it down either - don't know the exact reason why but have heard that his new plane is a bit like the HMS Poseidon at the moment...

Well....

For the record... I flew close to 80 practice flights with my "tiger" And stalker .81 combo.. the week leading up to the State Championships.
I was schedule to depart Melbourne on the Friday.. and Thursday at 2:12 pm I was having my 7th flight of the day and during the outside loops... I felt a little.... " tug " on the lines.. and all of a sudden I had alot of down elevator.. Fearing the worse... I Leveled out and flew the remainder of the flight.. 1 foot from the ground.

12 - 15 laps later, the up line broke and it came into contact with the ground at high speed.. Even 1 foot from the ground it was unrepairable... What happened, was my line started to unravel out of the eyelet.. ( never had that happen before in all my years ! ) The reason I had an increase in down.. was the line unraveled a good 1 inch 1st.. then gave totally away.
The model is beyond repair... I have jsut plled the controls out and tank and engine are perfect.

These things are sent to test us..

I have the tigers' "brother" an identical model was built alongside that other one.. as a backup for the nats in case i had a failure.. it is a good 2 months away from being finished.

What annoyed me was it was going.. amazing.. its always the way!

Ive also got anotehr 4 engined bomber in the drawing board.

To top it all off.. later that day I slipped down the stairs and sprained my wrist.. so I was no able to even Take another model.. to fly..
Note to self.. dont walk down stairs when your angry!

So there you have it... EVEN experienced fliers still crash!

so WHAT happened to Joe's model??

As for he tux..... I dont recall who it was.. so I cannot commetn of who's girlfriend at the time was dressed how
