Ryan STA ready for flights and Brodak

Here is my latest Ryan STA, finally together and ready for first flights. Hopefully it will fly well enough for the Brodak meet nextweek. Charles Parrot was the designer of this classic legal model. Powered with a OS 40 FPs. This model is painted with the Stits system. Hope you enjoy the photos, Thanks Ed Culver

Great looking model, Ed. The paint looks like it worked well. What is your opinion of it? C'mon, tell us all about it. Is it water based or what? I saw it at the NW Expo several years ago, but don't remember much about it. Typical. Steve

Terrific job, Ed. I don't see shoulder harnesses on the pilot and passenger. Will they be inverting for two laps? I hope they hold on tight! You'll probably enjoy the next two Planes articles in Stunt News. -- Iain

I didn't use the water based stits because there wasn't any available at the local airport. I like stits but it is way different than using dope. The yellow went on thick and didn't cover the silver well. Next time I will use white as a base under the yellow.

As far as the shoulder straps - the boys are going to be doing the full pattern so that means 6 1/2 laps inverted.. YEEHAW!

Test flew the ryan yesterday and worked out a few bugs in the engine. BIG THANKS!! go to Bill Mitchell for all his help in getting the Ryan ready for Brodak's.

Nice job, Ed...it looks sharp. It's nice to see something that is not too common.

Now, about those flap farings.....I remember your original post about the difficulty of doing them with the sharp radius that was on the plans....I've looked closely at the photos, but I *think* I see ink lines. ?? You'll see me on my knees inspecting it when we get to Brodak's !! <big grin>

I am sorry but I will not allow anyone within 10 feet of the Ryan so that my reputation is not sullied. There are a LOT of things that I am not happy with but I did learn a lot.

As for the flap fairings.. I have broken the stupid things twice already and it has never been more than 20 minutes from the house. One break came when I was cleaning up yesterday and the shop towel caught the tip and SNAP! Remind me next time to listen to those that said to take the easier way out!

You did both things right. You picked one of the prettiest airplanes ever, IMHO, and you applied your considerable modelling skills to same.

Oh, by the way, you retained what is inherently an eye candy stock color scheme!
