If you mean, did Howard beat the current national champion last weekend, indeed he did. Rather handily.

The only problem was that there two other national champions in the contest, too. Welcome to my world for the last 25 years.

I boggles my mere mortal britches, just to imagine how HORRIFIC IT WOULD HAVE TO BE---TO FIND YOURSELF IN ANY ONE OF THOSE JUDGES SHOES as they try to sort out a WINNER? Especially when such high quality of flying is taking place before their sun-fried eyeballs, and trying to stand on their dead-butt-bladder filled bodies, that are just urine-in' to be free!

Not to worry. I wasn't overly surprised nor disappointed. I watched Howard's flight (last of the day) and turned to the judges, and told them "that, gentlemen, is what it's supposed to look like".

For the past year or so, that's pretty much what I mutter to myself each time I watch Howard fly.

But I generally recover quickly enough so that by the time I have the model back in the pits, Howard is no longer at circle center, I can say, "Well, that was okay at one level; but your (fill-in-the-blank maneuver) is still a little weak in that you are doing thus and so and it really bites."

The 2007 NW Regionals will really be special. Not only will I have my Knife Fight CL stunt handle with me, it will be made available to the highest bidder.

And, for the record, while my first flight at Meet N'Meat was pretty questionable, since I had not had a practice flight after the Yakovlev model, and Jim's handle neutral is different from mine, I was very pleased with my second flight. It just wasn't good enough to win.

And, Howard had a very bad break on Top 20 day at the NATs, another victim of the shifty winds. Aside from that, who knows what could have happened?

Well, aside from shifty winds, we still have hope.

Howard's first Impact was very, very good, but the model lived up to its name when the Hot Rock handle sheared the cable.

His current Impact is, as you have noted several times, also a very good model.

I'm thinking even Howard, building at the approximate pace of glacial retreat, can't build a third Impact to the same high standards as the first two.

Failing that, we can attempt to lure him to the Dark Side. I don't think he has yet sold his Saito 72, for example. And he has a drawer full of "bad-bearing" 40VF front ends, so we can capitalize on this very clear and stark reminder as to how substandard the too-small 40VF--spinning an equally too-small prop--really is in today's world of CL Stunt...

Absolutely, junk that wimpy little 40, and get a motor that can swing some serious lumber. Heck, there are people running 16" props, and everybody know that's gotta be better because you get more thrust.

I would think anyone with a pathetic little 11.3 would and should be intimidated.

Wanting to be a little "intimidated" myself, mildly envious of the results gained with pathetic 11.3-inch props, I just now whiled away some quality time looking for a 40VF.

I am curious about the reworked part. I have been told time and time again that the VF .40 runs best, right out of the box. No rework needed. That is what makes these motors so great. Plug -n- Play
what mods would somebody do to make them run better????????????

I'm 2 for 3 against David this year. 0-1 with Paul but I'm hoping to get another shot at him in a few weeks.

Howard stopped by our field in Eugene on Saturday on his way down to the CA Meet 'N Meat contest. He put in several practice flights. You just have to admire someone who will not let a day go by without some practice flights! (I would have made the trip without stopping to fly).

I actually flew in a previous Meet 'N Meat contest. I won something or other with a Ringmaster.

Well, I hope to be there, but it will be with all my second line equipment. Second best engine, second best airplane, etc, etc, etc.

#1 is in it's storage hanger awaiting action next summer. Don't want to wear that one out!
