Walt,
Of course I'll take one. The plans have already been redone and you have immediate access to them.

Somehow, it didn't occur to me that the Ringmaster Imperial was quite that big.

Yes, I would like one please. I think they could be made to fly rather well but never found a kit. Thanks, Bob Whitely

What are the stats for wingspan and engine size?
Thanks,

The Imperial isn't a bad airplane, just needs a thicker wing and longer tail. Too bad Sterling didn't look at the current crop of stunt ships when the Imperial was designed and do it right.

Is it even Classic legal? If not who cares what Sterling did, turn the engine over, go to an 18% airfoil, extend the tail 3 or 4 inches and it would be a half way decent airplane.

With a 680 square inch wing of 52-1/2" span, the chord works out to ~13 inches. Is that wing really that wide?

The chord of the wing on my R.I.(including the flap) is 13" at the root, and 10" at the tip.

Hi De,

That works out to ~600 square inches, more believable. Subtract out the wing inside the fuselage (if you do that), and you're down to 580 square inches, about 100 square inches less. Not that it matters at all..

I seem to remember someone having a superb example of one of these at VSC a few years ago. Of course, it was superior to any original, in wood, fit and finish, and power ? Perhaps not..

I've built one,and after I figured the correct control ratio it flew well. An LA40(or Aero Tiger36) would be the perfect engine, but the most important thing is to make the flap to elevator ratio 2/3 to 1.At 1 to 1 mine would not turn no matter how much tail weight I put on it, but as soon as gave it more elevator throw it became a really nice flying plane.

It would be nice to see some of these at the VSC. I'd always considered the R.I. to be an ill-conceived, overweight slug....an unfair, biased assessment since I've never built or flown one. Please prove me wrong by bringing one to Tucson next March.

I enthusiastically said yes to the idea of a R.I. Simply because I never had one, always thought it was neat as a kid, could not afford one at any price, and yes it was a heavy slug.
But it really was a neat looking thing, probably the most interesting Ringmaster of the bunch.I wouldn't care if it could fly the modern pattern and quite frankly I think that it would not be anybodys first choice for that.
So with that said I had bought Pat Johnsons plans for the plane courtesy of our host and while I don't have the origional plans the P.J plans are very well done< as always> and would make a very good model
It's 52.5 inches with 620 sq/in area wt is 40/50 oz not an unrealistic figure and he shows a DS40 on it, personally I'd use a Brodak 40.
Center rib less sheeting is 1 3/4 in in height ,tip rib is 1 and 11/16 high, it is short coupled at 8 3/16" from trailing edge of wing to l/e of stab and yes the wing is 13 in the center and goes to 10 at the tip.I'd never mount the motor inverted and change the looks of this classic.
So for reasons stated in the first paragraph my order is in for the Ringmaster Imperial and hopefully Walt will make it see the light of day. I like to have models that remind me of more carefree times and this is a really good candidate for that purpose.

Yes, this is the correct way to make the Imp fly well. The Pat Johnston plans show more elevator than flap throw. I bet an AT 36 would bring this model to life.

The original kit will soon be on its way to you. Might have made it to the P.O. today if it were not for a Holiday for some of us. Sure isn't for me.
