New Legacy Kit

Brodak's new Legacy kits are finally out and I got two of them in today. This is Allen Brickhaus' 687 square inch pipe ship, although it says on the lable: "For Traditional Or Piped Engine." Engine size is listed as 40 to a 61. OK, so far, so good. I found it interesting, however, that on the list of "other Items Required" is a 10-6 propeller! I wonder what engine John was running on this with a 10-6 propeller.

687, ~60 oz, sounds just right for a Fox or Lighting Bolt McCoy...

OK, and then we could use a 10-6, right?

Hmmmm,

Looks like John erred in prop size. He musta meant 11-6, or maybe 11.3-3.87592? Of course, if you were to put a PA .65 in there those props might cause it to over-rev a tiny bit? Bet my Veco 19BB could pull one - along the ground! Of course, the last time I held Alan's plane while he burped it, he was using an OS .46VF-RE, he could be using a bigger engine by now?

Mr Stuka How's the wood and how is the booklet that come with it. I'm asking for someone that will be here this weekend.He got back into flying this year and has pre-ordered one. Do you think it's construction is for advanced flyers or builders? HE flys intermedient and I hope the booklet is detailed enough for him. thanks.... Scott

I am just going to have to guess on this one since the kits are sealed and both of the ones I got in are presold. If you want to e-mail me, I can give you the e-mail of someone who bought one of these and he can give you his assessment of the kit.

By past experience I would expect the wood to be of good quality and the booklet quite complete. It is a larger plane and it would definitely help to have a jig or a very flat building surface. I would not expect it to be a beginner's kit, however, so if he is not at least a somewhat experienced builder and flyer, a different choice might be in order before he tackles this one.
