Big replica VECO kit?

In the 50s I was a Li'l Duper Zilch man ... er boy. My flying buddy with a full bodied and flapped Veco Somethingorother could fly circles around me and almost all of the other flyers. His plane was larget than my Zilch. We both powered our planes with a McCoy/Testors .29 Sportsman.

Any guesses as to what my buddy was flying?

Most likely Squaw or Warrior. Rene' Berger, Swiss Champ and Tucson snowbird has a great flying Squaw at most of the recent VSCs.

My first kit built-up was a Warrior with McCoy Sportsman .36 (all silver/bolt-on backplate tank).

John, did it have wing gear or fuselage mounted gear? The Veco kits with wing gear are the Hurricane and the Mustang. Any idea of the W.S.?

I'm thinking that it must have been a warrior because my buddy's younger brother built a Squaw w/McCoy sportsman .19.

That was 55 years ago ... I haven't seenn a Veco anything since.

How big was it? How did it compare to your Zilch sizewise? The Chief is considerably bigger than the Lil Duper, comparable to the Super Duper Zilch. The Warrior, TomTom, and Squaw are more closely related to your Zilch.

I gave my buddy a Super Duper Zilch for Christmas to go with his Hornet .60 ... so I know it wasn't a Chief. If the Warrior has flaps and Akromaster-like wing tips, then he must have had a warrior.

Anyone making the kit these days?

Larry Richards makes a real nice hand cut one, but he is taking a vacation from kitting until late next year.
