WHAT IF you were going to be marooned on a desert island and could only take one flying outfit (engine plane, etc.) with you. By the way, there's a good flying field and unlimited fuel on the island. You'll be flying all by yourself so there won't be any competition or prizes. You'll be the only male on the island but all the young Chinese girls from the Brodak ARF factory will be stranded with you.

What plane would you bring? Why?

Ditto engine.

> Wont have much time for flying.

You got that right. First, the young ladies won't want to sleep outside, so they'll expect you to come up with some sort of living quarters. You won't be allowed to DESIGN it, but you'll be expected to build it, or at least do the heavy lifting parts.

Then, since you can't be tracking dirt INSIDE the living quarters, you'll have to help design/create some type of foot wear (unless you brought some over on the C-5) to wear when going outside.

Some of the ladies will no doubt be concerned about your health, so you'll be expected to excersize on a somewhat regular basis. Basically, the more time you want to spend doing things you like, the more time they'll want you to excersize.

Some of them will want to get off the island, so you'll be expected to come up with a plan to do that, and implement it. If you're lucky. If you're not lucky, they will come up with their own plan and expect you to help implement it.

LOL. Flying isn't the only thing you won't have time for:)

I know these things because my wife is Chinese. There is a Chine proverb goes something like "Man is the head, but woman is the neck that controls where the head turns."

The energy drinks were so the ARF girls could work harder building me replacement Noblers & t-birds for when I do dumb things.

What did you think I meant?

(Come to think of it, I better smuggle in some spare MAX-S .35s, maybe a couple of BriStunt's ABC upgrades!)

Hey - if you were only allowed to use ONE type of engine ever again, what would it be? My choice should be obvious from above.

My Checkmate 2.

Why? It is the best flying plane I have ever flown.
After close to a thousand flights on it, I am very comfortable flying it, it actually seems to fly itself.

I did some serious thinking about airplanes that I really enjoyed flying.

The old-rule F2d combat planes with wide-open venturis, no mufflers, all the nitro you could buy were just the best to fly.

Those were the days, my friends. I wished they'd never end.

Roaring around behind the axle plant at 120 MPH on 52' 2-3/8" of .012' lines.
Barely able to keep up with it? You bet !!
But with unlimited time in the day, the stated companions at night, I could get the feel of it.

If you're just out the by yourself flying for fun, this is it.

Aeroflyte Spitfire with PAW 19DS#36 source
LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-06 AT 07:24 PM (CST)

If I had to nominate the plane I have most enjoyed, in a shambolic, speed obsessed, teenage sort of way, it would be the Aeroflyte semi-scale Spitfire I built over Christmas 1982. Over powered with a PAW 19DS turning a 9x6. Couldn't do much other than wingovers and very wide loops with it because it was cranking around at about 70 mph / 110 km/h. But talk about FUN!!!!

I now have the plans for the Aeroflyte kit, courtesy of Peter White in Perth, so another one (with more appropriate powerplant) is in my future.

BUT - I'd still probably want a Nobler / OS MAX-S .35 to take with me.

As a youngster, the most fun I ever had with a plane was my green box Nobler and ETA-29

As a youngster . . . I'd have been chasing the ARF girls all over the place.

Now . . . I'd ask "Which of you knows how to do a real good back rub?"

And I'd still take the green box Nobler and my trusty old ETA 29!

Under the described circumstances, one might not have much time for flying. Therefore, I would take a plane that's *really* fun to fly.
My choice would be a fast combat plane called the Underdog, and a Nelson to pull it through the tropical air.
