Do you know of any sucessful V tail stunters? Why don't they seem to work very well? It would seem to me that differential deflection between the elevators (ruddevators?) could be set up do the same thing as the "Rabe Rudder". i.e. if the right elevator had more travel that the left one a left yaw would be induced for up elevator and a right yaw would be induced for down elevator. adjusting the differential would change the amount of yaw induced.

The Adamisons had some V tail stunters in the late 60's & 70's. Big Art could possibly fill us in on this.

I think Dale Kirn designed one thats old time eligible. Willis Swindell test flew one at our field one time, and it was a mighty squirrely plane. But the design is out there..maybe Willis can remember the name of that thing. Actually, I think the MA article on the VSC has a picture of it.

You not need a “V” tail to simulate Rabe rudder. It enough to have tilted stab as seen on the picture. It is simple version of my Tiny. It works well, but it depends on CG position (or by another words on the lift produced by elevator). … hmm … yes … does not look very “sophisticated”

Seems to me Dale's design ended up as the F&B "Stinger" kit, which was never available for scratch-building, because no full size patterns had been saved anywhere. But between Kirn and someone we see a lot in these forums, maybe John Miller (?), a new set of fullsize plans for that one should be available fairly soon.

I'm not aware that the tail design by itself necessarily resulted in any squirreliness of a CL plane - the full size Beechcraft Bonanza (model 35?) wasn't as directionally stable as its upright-tailed younger brother, so might be tough for RC, but CL planes hardly need a "rudder" anyhow.

Dennis Adamison came out with his "Sweet Pea" in the November 72 American Aircraft Modeler, Archi Adamison II,his Gemini II in August 91 Flying Models, and I think Dennis had one called the "Orange Crate", but it may have had a conventional tail set up. Some of the ones in the 70's had invdrted "Vee" tails, I think one was an F4 Phantom II or a Crusader, F8U by Vic Macaluso.

I built a V-tail Bonanza a few years back. Flew ok. I used two
pushrods to half horns for my linkage.
V-tails do work fine as Dennis Adamisin won the Walker Cup with one.
I do not think, that is because they do not work well. I think it is more work to build and set up. So flying in competition I think many would rather not add more complexity than necessary.

I think dale has plans for it. I bought a set from him a year or so ago. He also may still have some molded canopys for it.
For an easy experiment in V-tail, build the Brodak Swe'Pea for .049 size engines. I had one, and it only has an elevator on the inside tail surface. It would stunt just fine, with no indication of wierdness inside or out! I was amazed.
Sadly, the model was stolen! If you ever come across a really nice, silk covered Swe'pea at a swap meet or on the field, let me know. My AMA number is 9246, and I think it was on the model under the stab.

I'm in the process of finishing up the plans for Brodak. A few nights more and I'll ship them off so he can kit the Stinger. I actually finished the plans a few years ago, but there were a few changes Dale wanted made. These are the Cad plans that Dale had at the VSC a few years ago. You can contact dale as he has canopies for the plan as do I. Barry has plans also, these are copies of Dales originals that I used to make the CAD plans up with, in case you can't wait.

Does anyone have some pictures of the Stinger they can post?
More on F & B kits...I also had the Boxcar. I think that is the one that came with the fuselage construction roughed in for you. It was either this one or the Stinger, anyway.
Rare late '40s stuff in either case. Scart them up if price is south of $65. From Colorado (Golden?), or was it Denver, or did they move?
