Wichita Contest

Wichita Ks. is having their annual contest this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10th-11th. They are adding slow combat this year. They have a great facility and put on an excellent free dinner Saturday night for entrants and their families. I meet some really great modellers and had an absolutely great time last year.

This event was my first ever contest and it will be on my yearly tour from now on.

Tulsa's yearly contest is next month Sep. 28th-29th

We are sending Mr. Robert Smiley to said contest. He will fly to the contest in his front-row Lancair with his take-apart Twister within. Be sure to check out the airplane he rode down in. It's a dandy.

This is a first rate contest, lots of fun and nice people and definitely worth the trip from where ever Mr.Smiley is coming from. Weather forecast looks outstanding also with a little cooling front coming through just before the contest to keep temps reasonable.

75 mph combat and lots of racing events on Saturday, 4 stunt events on Sunday.

Mr. Smiley is coming from Kingston, Washington. He was flying out of Bremerton on Wednesday, stopping off in Meridian, Idaho for a day or so to fly a bit with Pat Johnston, then on to Salt Lake City and finally Wichita on Saturday morning. He was really looking forward to this.

Tom is out of the Country on business last I heard. You could probably leave it with Marvin.

4 combat fliers will make the trip from OKC and Mike Finnigan and I will stick around to fly stunt on Sunday.

Unfortunately, I got saddled with the unpleasant task of running combat, so I will take the engine for /Tom and see that he gets it. Marvin Denny aka Bigiron13

I'll pack my ships, I make an easy target. Smacked my Banshee at lunch with a little too low on the inverted laps. All my wingtip and tail weight snapped off, but I think I can get it fixed for tweaking tomorrow, if not I'll fly my dang Skyray for Pampa and I have my Shoestring ready for Goodyear but STILL don't have a ready Class I ship, couldn't find any wheels, didn't have the right size flying wires and NO practice help. Gonna sit down next to Marvin's plans if I can and find me a plane for next year.

I'm staying at the hotel over by the airport on the far side of town. I used to live over there and wanted to cruise the neighborhood to see what was up.

Banshee is ready to go, along with my Skyray, Flight streak, Blunt Traumas, Shoestring. The Banshee is a mess after a long summers practice. I really needed to get the Mustang ready, but have been stalled on that for a while now with Job uncertanties and all that jazz. At least my mom's doing better. Blood work came back normal which one doesn't expect for a lady that has Ovarian cancer as advanced as my mothers. Anyways, it hunts now like it never did before. It was bad BEFORE I wrecked it this week, in fact, I think that's what wrecked it. Now, it's a mess. But I'll fly it one more contest and get back here to build. Anyways, I can always drag the skyray through the pattern.
