Props for Magnum Tom Lay ST51

I am about ready to put the final finishing touches on my Magnum. Now I need to prepare some props for brake-in and flying. The plane weighed approx. 50 oz (with hardware and engine)before adding the finish. I also have a NIB ST51 from Tom Lay.
I was originaly going to use BY&O 11-5's for brake-in then possibly switch to BY&O 12-5 when the engine loosened up. Now I am lookin for alternitives. I have no problem reworking wood propellers and have done so in the past with good success. Also I am not in a position to pay more than $10.00 per prop if I can get by with it (I still snap a few on landings).

I know you don't want to hear this right now, but when you get your skill level there, then there is no comparision on the TL ST.51 with a 12" Bolly 3 blade carbon fibre propeller cut down to
11 & 1/2" and pitched to 5.2 with a good pitch guage. As far as wood props go, a good BYO 12" 5 or 6 pitch depending on what lap speeds you want or Rev-Up and Master Airscrew propellers work pretty good. Tom usually has run the engine on the bench some prior to shipping to determine how it will run. A long break-in period is usually not needed. In fact, I put mine directly into the plane and ran it in a four-stroke for two or three flights. Then went straight to the prop and lap speed I would be flying - that resulted in a moderately strong 4 stroke and a break to a fairly soft to moderate 2 cycle only in verticals and overheads. Tom's ST .51's are pretty awsome engines! Mine is on it's second plane and flew my 59 ounce Magnum for about 600 flights and is now hauling a Shark .45 around magnificently.
