"PW won this year, and most other years, by not making obvious mistakes, not through a "style". In fact, he has won flying 3 distinctly different styles (hard and fast with ST60s, overwhelming accuracy and tight and smooth with the 40VF, and smooth and relatively large with the Saito). In all cases, he simply made fewer obvious mistakes in things like bottoms, intersections, etc.

EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED ABOUT! Which one is worse? How much does each one count? Is it worse to bobble or soften? There is no "rulebook" that defines the deductions. Hence, "style" was born."

SO, what our you guy’s trying to say. BRETT, DID You said that style has nothing to do with scoring, that only the pattern in the RULEBOOK should be scored?

STYLE (n) The way in witch something is said, done, expressed, or performed.

EVERY flyer out that has there own STYLE. Be it soft corners, hard corners, small shapes, large shapes. I’ve watched many a video’s on some of the best Stunt Flyers out there. I’m going to name names that I’ve seen.
Chris Cox, very steady, calm, handle a little low but he’s working on it. Larger type of pattern but precise STYLE #1

Don McClave, intense, very focused, Handle up and other hand out of the way. Not a powerful pattern but precise. .35 fox power, HOWEVER, within rulebook shapes. STYLE #2

Paul Walker, smart, comes to win, super intense, handle way up looking down the lines like a rifle, very sharp corners, 5-4 foot bottoms 45 degree tops, opposite hand up on chest out of the way. Powerful in entering maneuvers, Rulebook in color is what I call it when he fly’s. STYLE#3

Windy Urtnowski, thinker, teacher, works hard, Rule Book pattern, takes small steps (watch next time) Hand up, not to powerful in entering maneuvers just goes through it STYLE#4

Scott Riese, Student, works hard, is un-sure in his flying, try’s to do he’s best, does a good maneuver then forgets there is another one coming, loses focus, However, hand up looks down lines, 5 foot bottoms, working on Rulebook shapes, needs handle time. STYLE#5
I believe that “STYLE” has a lot to do with points on your pattern. You hit the rounds hard you’ll score higher. Softer score lower even if it with in RULEBOOK. SO what STYLE DO I WANT TO FLY? Number TWO.

Scott,

Myself I prefer style #3, which I believe are shared by T. Fancher, B. Buck, D. Fitzgerald and D. Moon. Except that I havn't had a good enough airplane or enough handle time yet to get my skill level to that point. Well, I do plan to start on the Excelsior or Sotona at some point in time this year after I manage to get moved to my new work location. I think that Bill W would be style 2 or 4, not sure which though.

Am I in trouble again?

I only said that "style", whatever, *shouldn't* be a part, and in my opinion, really *doesn't* make much difference in practice at well-judged contests, like the NATS.

I have no doubt that the judges are influenced by such things, to lesser or greater degrees - I would never argue otherwise. I just don't think anyone can make an argument that there's anything written saying it *should* be a factor.

That's not style, that's accuracy. Or at least *perceived* accuracy.

You hit the rounds harder (vice swooping in) and you score better because there's supposed to be a very high rate of change entering the maneuver as defined in the rulebook (an infinite amount of pitch angular acceleration is required to go from a straight line to a fixed pitch rate). If you swoop in it *can't* result in a round loop, hence you have committed a shape error. The judges know that, and respond accordingly. Or at least that's my argument/excuse.

Of course, there's a lot of subjectivity in judging whether this is done too much, not enough, or just right, and I certainly wouldn't argue there isn't.

I still claim, assert, etc., that while it's obvious that people do have their individual styles, it hasn't in my experience been much of a factor in the results in most of the well-judged contests I have attended like the NATs.

"Am I in trouble again?"
NO. If you and other top 20 flyers don’t post or give your opinion WE commoners of stunt would have nothing to strive for. YOU are one of the best flyers out there and because of your background PLEASE keep it up. I learn something new everyday. Scott(youowemeabeer)Riese

We of the Buttafucco Stunt Team have had the privilage of watching Brett fly hundreds of flights, and we have determined that there is a sixth style that which Brett flys by... Ice water in his veins. That is why he is known around these parts as "Brett-Ice Water In His Veins- Buck". Larry, NorCal Circle Jerks.

And we have watched many of Larry "Smoke out the Wingtip" Fernandez' patterns. That's why we call him Larry "Smoke out of the Wingtip" Fernandez.

???? Just ask "Joey" Senior. He says "it's normal".

What I was trying to say is that "EVERYONE HAS A STYLE" not just a few.
