Os. Surpass 40 woes

I ran my new Surpass .40 on the weekend. The inst. say in needs little or no break in, just set the mixture needle rich for a while. Should expect 2/12K revs, can run the 11/6 prop (no clue re rpm) --suggest 20% castor.

So I ran it on 15/5 synth/castor,10 nitro, rich, after 20 minutes I opened the throttle, mixture rich (lots of smoke) it turned the 11/6 Revup (wide blade) at 7200. I switched to a BYO 10/6--8400!!
checked vlaves ok, no overheating, smooth run--absolutely no power, wouldn't pull its own weight.

What am I doing wrong??

Get MORE NITRO!! Four Strokes love Nitro. We run all ours (OS, Saito, and YS) with 20% Nitro. You want to use the Powermaster YS 20/20 fuel. This is the best for 4S motors. The engineers at YS motors got together with Powermaster to specifically blend this fuel for 4S motors. It works.

Turn the needle in. I would say you are way rich. Lots of smoke is not a good thing, really. This is not a Fox 35.

4 strokes are run BARELY on the rich side. Like one click or maybe two.

Are you still on the carb? If so set like this. Open it wide find full throttle. Then go only one click rich. You might not even hear a sound change. Then use the carb to adjust speed. Open for 5 secs then 3/4 throttle for 20 secs. Open for 5, 3/4 for 20. Repeat this for 2 full 6 oz tanks. This should be at least 20-22 minutes of run time. Dont leave it at full throttle longer than 5 secs until you have at least half an hour run time on it. Then the motor should start to break in a little. Then put it and fly it some. Set the motor in the same manner. If the carb is still on do not use the needle to set the speed of the flight. The carb is there for that very reason. Set the highspeed needle at full RPM only.

Get that wide blade off and put on an reg 11x5 for starters. Once it begins to run in say 20-30 minutes flight time. Start putting some pitch on it. Stay with the normal blade width. That wide is probably overloading it. Also it is never going to turn 11x6 at 12k. Dont expect that. Look at the prop range on the inst. there are probably some smaller props on there taht will go alot higher than an 11x6 will.

Jim. Make sure you have plenty compression. Could be you have a leaking valve that didn't seat properly. My Saito 30 had to be taken apart twice to hand-lap the valves!
