I have been going over some of my kits, both control line and free flight and I noticed I have 7 kits by M&P. My question is what ever happened to Fast Richard Mathis? Is he still in models, u/c or f/f or r/c and does he still live in Texas? I loved his articles in FM.

I'd enjoy swapping copies of stunt or combat design plans with you to get a couple more of his . . I missed an auction on an M&P kit recently (Cherokee) I would have liked to have won.

His sense of humor was priceless (Snider Swamp, indeed!), and I understand that he is out of all modelling completely, and signed over rights to his kits to someone quite a long time back. Although there were no details, GMA suggested that modelling folks would not even recognize Dick any more. It seems he had some trouble, breakdown, drying out from substance abuse, dissolution of his family, the whole unhappy enchilada.

He may have recovered now, and may associate his past activity with something he prefers not to think about any more, although I have heard that is is still alive and is well again. Also AFAIK, he isn't living in the Dallas area any longer.

Thanks Kiwi. I have been going through a bunch of old FM and MAN and AAM, etc. , and these guys pop up and I often wonder what ever happened to them. Luckily I got to meet a lot of them at VSC13, missed 14, but will be there next year. VSC is the best thing to happen to stunt since 1948!!!
Kiwi, send me a list of kits & plans you are seeking. I have a few and can make copies or swap with you. Ty

Dick Mathis produced a booklet, when I was a kid (Jr. High) in the early 70's 'HOW TO FLY U/C AIRPLANES' I read that darn book cover to cover 100's of times, filling my head with thoughts of 'ukie stunt' I'd say he was a big influence in my life, I'd love to tell him THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loaned someone my copy of that book. . .wish I had it back.
I taught myself all the basics of stunt - insides, outsides, lazy eights and inverted - with that book.

I, too would like to thank Dick Mathis
