A couple of other threads make reference to presentation.

I try to judge often... and I really enjoy others fly stunt. I do know that the guy that those sitting (out of the sun) on the sidelines and without score sheets proclaim as having "flown the best" is frequently not the high scorer.

Those observing v. judging tend to get caught up in presentation, and rate a flight as a whole. Our event should be scored as a total of scores for a series of maneuvers, not the overall flight.

Some flyers are very captivating, and their entire presentation is almost a dance.

Each maneuver deserves a score... the actions of the aeroplane or flyer between maneuvers should not be considered.

I agree; however, consider two identical patterns. Pattern A is flown with the unjudged level laps on rails, pattern B is flown with the unjudged level laps a rolercoaster. I bet, in spite of my best efforts, I would end up giving pattern A a few more points than pattern B.

It is not uncommon for me (and other judges as well, I think) for the pattern I thought best (impressionwise) not to be the high score. That is probably evidence that we were scoring as we should, one maneuver at a time.
