Oregon Senate Bill #48

Take a look at this link guys, it's not good news for us Oregon model airplane people. I'm going to contact my Senators to voice my opposition, I suggest any other Oregonians on here do the same. This seems to be aimed primarily at the RC crowd but it looks like it will spill all over us too!

Nils, check section "X"...it says models controlled by radio, lines or "design", which I guess would include Free Flights. And indoor models could not be flown in a gym or armory, even with permission! What ever happened to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"? Still, it would seem that you could do what you want on private property, as long as you don't overfly other's without permission. It would be interesting to find out what got this mess started. It looks to me like it was either a noise issue, or someone objected to an RC plane overflying his residence. It is interesting how one person's objection can be turned into legislation that ruins things for us all.

However, I read this as applying to farm propery. I think parks, armories, etc., would be excluded. But why should a CL plane have to keep its take-off area 1000 feet from the fence? They push the RC crowd back, and then include the CL planes within it. And how about electric? Gliders? (Say the powered launch version, for instance?) Do we ban overflights from something that makes no noise? And if you launch a free flight and it drifts in that direction, do we now go to jail if we claim it was ours? (Oh, no, not me, officer. It was that RC guy over there who launched this horrible contraption!)

It seems the beaurocrats have 'way too much time on their hands if they can "research" and submit such a lengthy collage of stupidity. Why don't they just legislate shooting everyone. That way they can ensure that NONE of us will ever have any FUN.
I'm Canadian and we've got our own similarly stupid laws coming into effect with gun "control". I just would like to see the beaurocracy for once do something CONSTRUCTIVE!!!
I sure hope you guys get this nonesense dealt with in time. Get out there and lobby the public, make everyone in Oregon aware of what's about to be lost through the passing of this bill and to be sure to vote it down. And as for all flyers everywhere, support these folks, as their loss may be the writing on the wall for the rest of us!! Think about that..........

This will be the second time to try to past this BILL. It comes down to land use laws here in Oregon. We have some people that Don't want the Beauty mixed up with airplanes and Noise. I've been to hearings two years ago and what started this crap was that a RC plane got away from the radio and went put of sight. The plane HAPPENED to go through a window down the hallway and crashed into a water bed. Lots of damage. However, it happened to be the Sheriff of Marrion County. So the story is.. even though you own your own LAND you can not fly model airplanes. STUPID LAW. I see that there alot of changes in this version. scott

I'm happy to report that Senate Bill 48 is officially dead. I just received this in an email from Mike Hazel---
