How do I dye silk?

Hi guys,

I've been pondering the subject of using some Rit Dye on some 5mm silk for one of my wing covering projects. I don't recall ever reading anything about it so I thought I better find out for sure. I've read articles about dyed 'silkspan', but not silk.

Have done silkspan with RIT, and don't see that silk would be any different, but to play it safe, I'd probably dye, rinse and apply while still wet. Another alternative would be to use Analine dye from FAI Model Supply <www.faimodelsupply.com>, the same place as you get PolySpan. You mix it into clear dope, but have to spray it on to get even coverage. Don't neglect several good clear coats over to seal it, or it will run when you get fuel on it!
