Rear rotor McCoy .19

Hey guys,

I was recently given a derilict Ringmaster with a McCoy rear rotor .19 on it. I set it aside to deal with later, but I have become a little curious about the engine. It has a red head just like other McCoy .19s I have had, and a very beefy front end, although I haven't looked closely and I don't know if it has ball bearings, etc.

Did McCoy make more than one rear rotor .19? Any thoughts about what I might have here with just this little bit of information?

It sounds as if they did. My dad won a McCoy 19 rear-rotor in the '48-49 time frame, and I had it later. I traded my dad's (which was in poor shape) to GMA for a runnable one because it had George's AMA # for it's serial number! It was all bare aluminum, with ball bearing crank, and a very spindly looking front end and engine lugs. They are the typical "bump" style lugs. It runs pretty well, but of course no match for a modern 15.

I am far from an expert. GMA is the acknowledged expert, and likes stuff like this, so I would highly recommend contacting him to for the details.

I think that McCoy put out at least three Rear Roter versions. One a red head Speed engine that the rear backplate bolted on (there was a small venturi version and a large venturi version) then the had a sport version that the backplate was cast as part of the case and the venturi was cast on and went straight out the back . Then the other version was similar but the venturi slanted up toward the top of the engine.
I believe that was all. The cast on venturi versions did not have red heads that I know of.
