3mm (.6mm pitch) socket head cap screws....

Enya uses 3mm (.6mm pitch) socket head cap screws for their head and frontplate screws (these happen to be 8mm long). I have 3mm cap screws, but they're all .5mm pitch. I have checked Micro Fasteners and Small Parts, and I'm having no luck at all finding .6mm pitch. I don't care if they're stainless steel or an alloy.

Anyone have any ideas?

I just bought a huge pile of Enya screw kits mainly for the 09/15/19 and some gaskets. These are the right size also for the 29/35/40 engines as they all have the same head size. If you are having difficulty and need some let me know and I'll forward some to you. It's amazing what you can pick up at a Flea market. Was at the Lebanon Pa one last week and these were bought along with a pile of other parts for a price that is so low i'd be embarrased to print it.

Thanks for trying to help, but I may be beyond it. It turns out that they are 5-40's. I was too convinced they were metric to check them against an SAE size gauge. Stupidity runs in the family, but I've spent years honing mine to perfection.

Not exactly. I think they really are 3x.6, but 5-40 is close enough that they fit. Works on ST46 head bolts, too.

Brett, I know there IS a valid 3mm-.6mm size. I have the tap. Doesn't change a bit though, the fact that I'm an idiot. Thanks for your encouragement anyway; I need it.

Yes, maybe, no. Well, I like the metric system to the point where I have to convert stuff to or from some other system. In the early '80's, we were supposed to Metricate...BUT...our version of Metric threads were going to be different than the Asian Metric threads, which are different than the European Metric Threads. What you got, I would suspect are Asian Metric. I'm not up on what the actual differences are, but I understand the European or at least British version has 55 degree thread form instead of our 60 degree, the root may be radiused, the crown may be flat or radiused, etc. Ooooooh, I have a headache. If they aren't the same, what's the point? But why are we the only country on Earth that is using an antiquated system that was invented in another country by a KING, of all people. Steve

Just go to a bolt company (we have a couple here) and take the screw with you. I swear Hi-Strenght Bolt can get just about anything. If they can get bolts to match Grade 10 Ford 4L head bolts (Torx53 (53?), 83mm long, 170 thread), they can get anything. Works for bearings too, a bearing company is a much better place to get engine bearings than the engine manufacturer. You can choose your grade.

You're right about their being metric. They actually ARE 3mm dia., .6mm pitch. Do 5-40's work? Well, yes and...not exactly. The thread pitch seems to be the same; that's good. The 5-40, however, is a bit larger in diameter. I ended up having to re-tap the holes to 5-40, but that worked like a charm. In that process, I had bought the tap from Micro Fasteners, and it turned out to be a bad one...wouldn't start into the threads. Micro Fasteners replaced it though and pretty quickly. Good service.

Incidentally, neither Small Parts, Micro Fasteners nor McMaster-Carr has the 3mm .6mm's. I also phoned two other suppliers, and I can't remember who they were, but no dice there either.
