Flying Time

As a member of this forum for the past few months, I as a
reborn C/L enthusiest, am amazed on the amount of hours
that some individuals have flying.
I have to admit hours in the range of 3000 to 4000 must
mean constant flying for years.
Im lucky if I can get out a hand full of times in the summer!

Those with many hours, Have you been flying for many years?
How many times do you get to fly in a season?

Well G-Man, you got me curious so I did some cipherin'. Since I started keeping track a year ago last Jan 1, I've put up 1,236 flights. At 6.5 minutes/flight (give or take), that comes out to 134 hours of actual handle time in the last 15 months. If I had started flying that much 30 years ago & kept at it like some of the guys in these BBS's I might be good by now

Well, for me it sorta depends on flying site availability. Early spring to about July, I can use a local school and fly 2 or 3 times a week, 4 to 8 flights a session. More before a contest. After about July, the soccer teams take over the school and they schedule them in such a way that no one else can use the facility. So, I'm out of luck unless I want to drive an hour and a half to somewhere I can fly. If the deal with the local airport goes through, I'll join the local RC club so I can use the facility. Then I'll fly 2 to 4 times a week, more before a contest.

I know Paul used to fly on his lunch hour just outside his office at Boeing. Burned a lot of fuel.

The new season is almost upon us, and I'm trying to set up a schedule like I had when I was flying R/C. At that time, I'd try to get out to the field whenever I could, and it was a never-ending source of irritation to my wife. We finally agreed on 2 evenings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and Saturday or Sunday morning, depending..... Voila! No more fights!

'Course, now I'm a Scoutmaster and working roughly 10 hours/day minimum - the schedule is gonna need some tweaking, methinks...
