Here is picture of my Buccaneer 740 I built this winter. It has a SSW OS 35FP and has a Monokote and Sig dope finish. It weighs 45 ounces. Getting ready to put up the first flight. The weather looks like it won't cooperate this weekend though.

:) Ditto that! $aneers are neat and good fliers. Don't let Dave G. fly it, he's old but bold. The Buccaneers lend themselves to "kit bashing"...you could make a nice STUKA from one! Steve

Well Steve, ya know Dave will get some handle time! He did all right flying my RD-1 last year. By the end of summer I could see the improvement in his flying...or maybe we got the plane trimmed out! LOL! I always look forward to Dave coming to town. If we can't fly, we eat! So as the summer goes by, if Dave is gaining weight, then you'll know the weather here has been bad. Say hi to him for me. Ultra Hobbies Buccanner 740 and 746#5 source

I hear the plan is for Ultra Hobbies of Dallas to kit the Buccanner 740 and 746. The kit would be all balsa (laser cut).

John asked me if I would build the prototype 740 for the kit box. I had never seen one, so thanks for the pictures. Very nice.

Was yours a kit or scratch built? If it was kit, where did you get it? Are there any more available?

It was scratch built from plans I got from Allen Brickhaus. These were the Custom Models plans. It has a foam wing which I cut and tripled cored then used geodetic capstrips, then honeycombed between the capstrips. The canopy is a Sig WWII 9 inch canopy. It was a little wider than the fuse 2 3/8 vs 2 1/4. I just "pinched" the bottom of the canopy to fit the fuse. I think the canopy gives the plane an "attitude"! Thanks for the compliments everybody.

I heard that Brodak tried to arrange with the Hopkins' to kit their defunct ukie line, but was refused. Maybe it's the funny way they talk in PA, but you should look at the old ads, as their prototype 740 was done in Texas Flag Motiff and is a beaut! I think I read that it was built by Frank Williams. I plan to use that graphics design on my pair of 746 kits. One nice thing about these designs is that they could easily be "bashed" into a Stuka, Saber, P-51, Tucker Special, or whatever your heart desires. Steve

Nice piece of work, Crist! Nice clean lines. Good color and trim choices.

Now, if I could only get one of my two project planes finished!

Hope to see it in person this Summer. We've got several contests in northern Il this Summer. Memorial Day weekend (Treetown); July 1 (Fermilab); August ? (Rockford) and Labor Day weekend (Lost Cajun). Then there's Peoria in Sept. Wow, we have a full plate! I'll be at 2 of these for sure 'cause I'll be helping to run the Treetown and Fermilab events. Practice, practice; I may get to judge you!

Thanks for the kind words. I'll be at Treetown, Milwaulkee, Fermilab, Polk City, St. Louis, Peoria, Rockford, and most of the Midwest contests. Looking forward to seeing you and all the rest of the flyers I met last year. Finish up those planes. Though the Mustang looked pretty good last year. Take care,
