After a long absence, I finally got some 10 x 6 BY&O props in. I bought all of what Brodak had left at the time. But it looks like Brodak will be getting the props back into production again, although I would suspect they will still be slow in getting out some of the sizes.

Leonard;

Still being a born again C/L modeler,I am not familiar with all the products available, could you explain the difference between a BY&O prop and a basic 10x6 Topflite wood prop.

Thanks

The Y&O (Yates and Orwick) props go back a long (very long) way. They are wide blade, thin airfoil, props nearly ideally suited for many of our engines. Clarence Bull bought the tooling and called them BY&O (for Bull, Yates & Orwick) and since Brodak bought the tooling he just kept them as BY&O (with the B now standing for Brodak). The old Top Flite series M props were another good, wide blade prop no longer available. The new Top Flite props are an altogether different animal. They are thin blade, thick airfoil, good for the RC types who like the scream their engines. Now we did thin the airfoil on a 13 x 6 Top Flite Power Point and cut it down to 12 1/2 inches and made a good wood substitute for the Bolly 12 1/2 x 5 1/2.

But, getting back to the original question, the BY&O props are a good stunt prop in the 5 and 6 inch pitches for any of the normal (not high rpm) stunt type engines.
