Polyurethane finish

I remember reading somewhere that Varathane Diamond Gloss was a good fuel proof clear finish. Is that the solvent based or water based? Solvent based paints & dope sometimes give me bad headaches, even when I use them outdoors. I've tried the Nelson Hobby System 3 water based polyurethane with excellent results. But it is expensive, and hard to find. I am looking for a readily available water based polyurethane I can get at the herdware store that would be fuel proof.

I think your typo was perhaps more appropriate than we might think--based upon some of my recent experiences at the mega-home-maintenance-repair/build-household-appliance-and-late-anniversary-gift-stores!

I do recall that the threads regarding this polyurethane were refering to the water-based variety--but I couldnt seem to find one to be 100% sure. My instinct would be that it shouldnt matter. Hopefully others will check in on this as well.

Water based poly is fuel proof. However, it is also huge heavy and does not polish to a shine very well. I suggest it to our members who are building foam combat ships as a sealer for the wooden parts.... it seems to work well.

We used Deftane (a Deft product) on our flite box. It is also the stuff that Clarence Bull, and now Brodak, use on the BY&O props. A would, also, be concerned about weight, however.

Brodak dope dries very quickly and doesn't leave the lingering odor of that other (S*G) brand. Maybe with a little ventilation while you paint, this would work OK for you.
