Control line event?

I would like to attend a C/L event in my area. I am new to the hobbie and would like to see one. I would really like to see a Navy Carrier event. I live in Northern California in Crescent City The Real Northern CA, not the Centeral CA Bay Area. If someone would let me know when and where one of these events is taking place I would like to attend. Thank's in advance

Yes, the Roseburg contest May 25-27 will be about the closest to you, and it's a humdinger. We all stay at the Windmill Inn, (541)673-0901 or (800)547-4747. The airport is a couple of blocks north of the motel.

Why might it be the last one? That's one of my prime areas
of consideration for relocation after retirement! If they
don't let the NW regionals happen there anymore I'll have to
move them down the list some!!!!!

I have it on very good authority that this will be the last NW Regionals put on by the Eugene Prop Spinners. These folks have been putting on this terrific contest for 30 years & they are tired. For the most part the same people are doing the work now that were doing it 30 years ago. Most of these gentlemen are getting older & simply aren't physically able to shoulder the tremendous amount of work involved any longer. I have heard that the contest may be continued by another club, possibly in a different format but nothing definite. Another reason for this being the last year for the contest (as we know it anyway) is that the area at the airport where the contest has been held is going to be built into a memorial for the retired General
who was murdered in his home a few years ago by some punk burglar. ( I'm embarrassed to say the General's name escapes me at the moment:/ ) Certainly a good use for the site, but it will no longer be available for use as a contest area. I certainly hope one of the larger clubs will pick up the contest in some form for 2002.

OK I'll let the cat out of the bag. I am working to bring the CONTEST to Portland. We could have at least SEVEN hard decks, grass, and Hotels, Food, All with in walking Distance from each other. However, LET me work on it. Scott

Please forgive me for veering off-topic for a moment, but I would like to take this opportunity to tell you all a little bit about the General they are building the memorial for at the Roseburg Airport. First, the mans name was General Marion Carl. He was the first Marine fighter pilot in WWII to become an Ace. By the end of the War he was credited with downing 18-1/2 Japanese aircraft. He was also the first pilot to land a jet on an aircraft carrier, making 5 arrested landings & 4 takeoffs on the ship USS Franklin D. Roosevelt with a P-80 Shooting Star on 11, Nov 1945. Nearly two years later, he flew another jet, a Douglas D-558-1 Skystreak, to a then world airspeed record of 650.796 mph. Still later, after Chuck Yeagar had broken the sound barrier with the Bell X-1, General Carl flew a Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket to an altitude record of 83,235 feet. The General returned to combat during the Vietnam War as the commanding officer of the 2nd Marine Air Wing. He retired in 1973, having amassed some 13,000 flying hours. He was killed in 1998.
