VSC 2K3 Barndoors

Back when World War II had just concluded and U-Control gas models with ignition engines were beginning to develop into various genres, stunt was stunt. The basic formula was a spar or two in the wing, constant chord ribs, a boxy fuselage and a big ignition sixty. With enough power and wing area, you could do things. Of course, with enough power, you could get a barn door to fly.

All of these designs are from that era.

OK, SSW Forum old timers, what's the geneology of these designs?

And who brought what model to VSC XV?

The "generic barndoor stunter" is a Jamison Special. This particular one was Wild Bill Netzband's and was powered by a Super Cyclone 64. When he flew it, no one on the field could hear for about 5 minutes. If there was a "loudest engine" award, this would be a top contender.

The Victory is a Don Still design (before the Stuka) and was flown by Charlie Reeves I think. Fantistic looking airplane!

The blue Humongous is Larry Foster's which he flew to 3rd place in OTS. This is a popular design here in Tucson since the designer Ted Snow lived here.

The WILDMAN 60 is my own 1950 stunt design. The yellow one was built by Roy DeCamera with an Anderson Spitfire 65 on spark ignition. The red/white one is mine with the Orwick 64 ignition engine.
