Hijacked. While looking for a thread covering flying sites, and not finding anything particularly applicable, this one popped out; it's as good a match as any other that turned up.
As those of you who pay attention to worldwide, or at least to the nationwide weather will know, the recent hurricane created plenty of rain in Texas, and it even looked overcast yesterday evening, when we went out, a second time in the same week. Sunday morning there were five fliers at McAllister Park's Upper Bee Tree Field. That was the largest crowd I know of at that site up till then.
There are two beginners/ working on intermediate level CL aerobatics pilots in town now, and another old retread has turned up as well. This evening we had two Bills, two Franks, one Roger and one Jeff. Almost enough to set up two circles (and there is space to do it). Fantastic! It's been many years since I can last recall more than four at one time flying CL here in San Antonio, and then it was just two familes' worth, the Hesses and us.
(But I am so out of practice with slow stuff, I can't keep 'em in the air at {hand} launch worth spit! Broke a prop Sunday, and the stab tonight. So the new FP 40 didn't get a third break-in flight after all. )
But having a "big" group together at once is something to be happy about, I think! . . and worth sharing! For any folks in driving range who might be interested, McAllister is just east of the airport here, and Bee Tree is in the south end of the park. It's pretty, with deer wandering around, and the usual armadillos, road runners, etc. that may be found in Texas woodlands areas. Part of the year it's a soccer field, most of the year it stays cut short (it's not short this week), and usually it's easy enough for wheeled models to land and take off from. There are porta-potties, and even some shaded parking.
I'd enjoy seeing an even larger crowd show up!
