Buccaneer 740 + LA 46 = awesome

Put 10 or 11 flights on the Buccaneer 740 today and all I can say is "AWESOME".. We had a pretty good breeze at 10 to 12 and the Buc. didn't even know the wind was blowing. That LA 46 is a monster, on one flight I got off way to rich. It was doing close to 6 second laps and still had enough power to do the pattern in a 10-12 MPH wind. The only reason I didn't finish was I wasn't carrying enough fuel, it burped in the overhead 8's so thought I had better play it safe and not try the clover.

I did end up putting a green Bru Line filter on the venturi to settle the run down a bit. The .293 venturi seemed a tad to large for consistent performance. I was running 5-22 50/50 Power Master and ended up about 9 grand on launch. This is a guess because I quit playing with the tac about half way through the day.

Many thanks to the Dallas gang especially Don, Doug and Steve for a terrific airplane and all your help. I will be ordering a 740 kit as soon as I get the Legacy finished

From my understanding this airplane is the prototype of the Ultra Hobbies kit built by Don Hutchinson. It is the one shown in the picture with the Red White and Blue Texas paint scheme http://www.egpworld.com/ultrahobby/catalog/CLkits.htm

The plane does have a built up wing, weighs 47.5 ounces with the LA 46, plastic spinner and 1/2 ounce of tail weight. I was flying it on 64 ft eye to eye Tom Morris lines which seemed to be a good compromise between lap times and line tension. The LA was box stock (complete with plastic back plate) except for the venturi. .293 with ST needle and Bru Line Green filter. I was running Power Master 5 % nitro 22% oil 50/50. APC 12.25 X 3.75 prop with 1/4 inch cut off each tip.

This really makes for a great inexpensive easy to build combination that would take anyone to the top of Advanced or even into Expert.
