Anyone ever tried putting lusterkote over Sig nitrate dope? What I had in mind was dope the wood surfaces with 2 coats of Sig nitrate dope, apply silkspan to wood surfaces, one more coat of nitrate, let it dry for 3 or 4 days, then lusterkote primer and color per instructions.

One of the things about nitrate dope is that is pretty much compatible with any reasonable over coat. Try a small "test batch" on a piece of cardboard first and you'll soon know for sure if there are any problems with the combo.

I have used that very combination a couple of times with very good results. I have now gone to nitrate for bare plane, butyrate on the silkspan because it seems to shrink it better (or longer) and Lusterkote. However, you might think about trying Pactra Formula U paint instead. I used that for my trim on top of Lusterkote last time and it seems to be a superior product. It is slower drying, but leaves a beautiful, high gloss finish. Unfortunately, the only thing that seems to stick to it is more Formula U.
Anyway, I'm going back to Monokote or Ultrakote for open bays because my garage floor and everything in it is getting colored from all of my spraying!
