Major Goose Bumps yesterday.

I was out moving some equipment yesterday afternoon and caught the Yankee Air Museum B-17 returning to its Willow Run home base. It rumbled on by nearly overhead at about 1500 AGL. What a sight!

We are about 10 miles from the runway here.

A bunch of the warbirds flew up the Detroit River for Memorial day.

You'll have to come out to my place one of these days, I live almost on the NE approach and all the YAF aircraft frequently tree-top level my house (the dogs were hilarious until they got used to it). Jack Roush's Mustang coming over at low altitude is really impressive. The 1st time the B-17 flew over I got goose bumps imagining 1000 of them on there way to Germany loaded for bear, there is NO song like that of those 4 radials pumping out raw HP, its as distinctive as the Allison in a Mustang on high-boost.

Oh Yeah! The Blue Angels practice sessions are really interesting too!!

Reminds me of Oshkosh. THe only thing better than a P51 is a DOZEN P51 on a flight line..all firing up at once.

Or 25 AT-6 flying A formations.

Or triple bank FU8 doing close air cover.

Or the P38 on high speed fly bys.

or the....

No, no flying at all, I've been trying to finish up a kitchen remod and get it out of the way. Pretty close but still a ways to go. I've cancelled plans to go to Brodak's in favor of a Free Flight meet in Sturgis because my Dad is getting up there and he really enjoys FF more that PA, Lord willing I'll still have plenty of time for stunt.

What's cool is watching a Stealth Bomber do a fly over!!!

Boy does that picture bring back memories. Staioned with SAC at Mountain home AFB in Idaho in 1964 with B-47's and KC97's.
The sight of a B-47 going off with a full RATO rack is not easily forgotten.

A couple of years ago the local airport had a bomber fly in. The B-29 Fifi, a B-24 and B-17 made repeated low altitude passes over the house. I'd go running outside everytime one passed over - just in time to see it disappear behind the trees. These guys were less than 1000 feet.

Many years ago I attended Boeing's 50th anniversary for the B-17. They had three in attendance on display. Then they all cranked up, taxied out and took off.

Also a few years ago the local CAF had Mustangs. The sound of those Merlins wide open would put goose bumps on anyone.

Try four of them at a time in a Lancaster. The one from the Canadian Warplane Heritage flys over our place now and then. Spine tingling!

At last! A reasonable voice in the forest of Mustang lovers! Merlins on high boost and low level....puts goose bumps on my goose bumps! I watched a Spit Nine doing low level beat-ups after an airshow years ago and still the hairs on my neck stand up just thinking about it!

Ah yes, infernal combustion at low level. Just love it. But I gotta say there ain't nuttin like an F14 at full AB going straight up from an Air Force base, and watching the boys in blue drool with envy. Fly Navy.

I was IN the rear seat of a Phantom on reserve proficiency flights out of NAS Memphis a couple times. Those hi alt penetrations are sooo cool!

And simulated carrier landing practice was not for the faint of heart!
