Intermediate at the Nationals, 2003

John Brodak hads generously agreed to sponsor the Intermediate Event at this years National Championships, in Muncie, IN.
The event will take place on the grass pads adjacient to the "L" pad, and will be held on SUNDAY< July 6th. We will begin flying at around 10:00. Typically we draw about 16-24 participants. We try to fly two flights with the best single flight counting, and take the top ten flyers and fly them in the afternoon to determine the Champion. This is a non-official event, so the entry is only $10.00 and the winner (if he stays) gets a paid entry into Advanced!
The R.A.F. (John Benzing and Paulie Winters) has helped as judges for the past several years and they are unable to make it this year...SO...if you feel like standing around in the hot sun / wind / rain and being part of the confusion, please let me know.....

We are looking for six judges in the morning and hope that three of them don't run off for the afternoon rounds.

The MOON brothers have generously agreed to conduct appearance judging Sunday morning. They do a great job and Jake acts as a tie breaker. We sure could use a couple more judges.....

Intermediate is a fun time, ala Brodak's. This year we plan to encourage Woody Midgley and Bob Robertshaw, the Advanced / Open Pit Bosses, to fly with us (not to be trophied or anything.....they fly Advanced, but they are two very hard working guys and they deserve to fly a bit.

I can act as tie breaker because Jake won't be there this year.

I will judge if Windy will... he has a lot of funny stories, he always cracks me up.

Do you have to pre-register or can you register the day of the contest. (Haven't been to a gnats since 1957)

I'm prepping the old Roadmaster and turning in coke bottles for the entrance fee. Is there anybody who believes there is sanity in driving 1000 miles for two flights (hopefully)?
I would like to do a psychological profile of the typical control line model airplane enthusiast sometime.
The main reason I do this is because I enjoy working my tail off for months while inhaling various chemicals and balsa dust, spending my cash, and neglecting my job, family and most other responsibilities in order to take the finished product and dive it at the ground in a variety of ways at about 60-70 mph and hope one of a thousand things that could go wrong don't:)
(And it's FUN-and I like the people who do it!)

Heres a heads up for all you potential Intermediate participants!
Its going to be hot most likely, with variable to dead and shifting winds in the afternoon.If you can arrive a day early, get a morning engine setting. Also, get an afternoon setting. Chances are good that you will need to needle in and or up the nitro from your morning run in order not to flounder around on your last official. These are typical conditions for Muncie in early July. In the event it gets blustery, have a good back up prop of a little less pitch than your favorite air beater for this possible 10 mph plus condition.
Be ready to fly and know who you follow in the flight order. If possible fuel up before coming onto the circle. Inform the judges and event director of any conflicts within the order if you are working with someone else on another circle or participating in another event.
Be prepared to hear this same speech from me at the pilots meeting if Rich still intends me to be head judge. This is not to give anyone an advantage but to allow the event to flow smoothly, foster a competiti environment and keep your Nats experience a positive one and finally to send you home with your bird in one piece. The best pilot of the day...will win.

Lemme see if i can get Tysor to judge with me again also. Havent spoken with to many folks this year other than here. Are we running two or three circles Rich?

Given the lack of response on the other thread, it's starting to sound to me like appearence judging for intermediate would be the time and place for the Stuka Stunt Forum Group Photo.
