Sad News

Monte Lawrence, aka Mr. Whizkers when he posted on this forum, passed away Saturday, May 24th. Bill Wilson and Phil Dunlap attended his funeral in Cleburne, Texas today. We weren't aware until late today. Monte did a lot of research and testing of the new-fangled painting methods often discussed on this forum. His planes were works of art. At the DMAA contests he could always be counted on to provide fantastic chile and beans. Well maybe a little on the spicy side for some! He is sorely missed.

Was just informed by Phil Dunlap that Monte Lawrence was buried wearing his PAMPA T-shirt and his DMAA cap. On display next to his casket was his favorite plane, the Texas Belle, an original, and his District VIII Trophy, which he won by the widest margin in the history of the award. Monte didn't talk very much, he just shot the numbers.

I wish I had known. I live in Cleburne and could have attended. I'm really sorry to hear it.

We all go out the same way we came in- when it happens. Sometimes we are remembered fondly- sometimes not, it's the luck of the draw.
Thermals and good flying to him always.

I first met Monte back in 2000 when they flew at Handley Park in Fort Worth. He was a very kind man and was always willing to help me. I learned a lot from him and he will be greatly missed. For the short period I did know him, I’m glad I did. Our prayers go out to his family.

The loss of Monte is hard to take.

As Dale said, Monte was one of the first to work with Bill Wilson to help develop the Polycrylic finishing method. His airplanes using this method were awesome!

I wish we had knowe soon enough to go to the service.

Monte will be missed... God Bless Him.
