Don't know how much this helps you, but a T.T. .42 with Leonard's mods, delrin venturi and NVA, and an Adamison muffler weighs in at 10.29 ounces on an accurate Ohaus digital laboratory scale.

RE: Engine Weights#2 source
Hi Jim. I looked up the Towers Hobbies site and found the following info on the engines you asked about.
Tower .40 BB:8.75 oz wo muff. 11.4 oz with muff.
Thunder Tiger .42: 345 grams with muf. 260 grams wo muff. Sorry, not ginve in oz.
OS .40 LA: 9.5 oz w/o muff.
Magnum XL .40 BB ABC: only one near yours I think:14.93 eith muffler. Shown in stock.
Hope this helps. Ty

RE: Engine Weights#3 source
I wouldn't rely on any of the advertised weights. When we convert these to CL the weights change, also. We just moved and I need to get things organized again. When I do, I can weight each engine for you. The Tower 40 is a bit less than the last FP 40 engines due, primarily, to better machining on the crankshaft. The LA is heavy. The Magnum 40 (BB) is about the same weight as the Magnum 53, which came out at 10.7 ounces converted. Not bad for a 53. Heavy for a 40.

I can get better figures later if someone else doesn't come through.

RE: the weight of things, and OS-35-S Mufflers#4 source
Len: If you think advertised engine wts are unreliable, try running shoes. Boy, do those guys lie.

Another subject: I was moving the "Tea Kettle" muffler around this weekend, on two separate OS-35-Ss.

Ever notice that the S model comes in (at least) three different configurations?

1. Holes in sides of exhaust are threaded, but stop inside engine

2. Holes go all the way through case; daylight on the other side.

3, Pure CL. Vertical exhaust split, and plain, undrilled bosses that emerge from the exhaust cutout.

I've been using your Tea Kettle muffler (moving one around, PLEASE send the other one) on two different engines. On 1. and 2. above, can you use a commercial muffler, or a tongue?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-01 AT 11:05 PM (EST)

Magnum reportedly dropped their sleeve bearing engines (GPA series). The .46 GPA weighs 270g/9.5 oz without throttle, muffler and glowplug. The .40 GPA was built on the same case, so is probably even heavier, and it's a big engine. The LA .46 is 250g without throttle or muffler, venturi, NVA and glowplug, and the .40 is .1 oz lighter, and they're pretty big also. The Tower .40 is 227.5g without muffler, throttle, glowplug, venturi and NVA. I got these weights on an Ohaus triple beam balance. Steve
