This morning circle one was repaved with a 30 ft wide donut, 4 foot wider then circle two. This was headed up by Lou Wolgast and Robin Sizemore. Plans are to repave the pits and enlarge them before VSC16.

Great news! Since half of California seems to be moving to Tucson, much thanks are due the city's Parks & Rec. Dep't. for helping the club host the Annual Reunion. Wish we could see the new addition, but we're forced to remain here amongst the cool, green pine trees and 68-degree temp's today.

Hey Floyd, I sure hope you managed to unpack and get settled quicker than we are now doing. What a hassle! With any luck, we'll never have to move again. (Though visiting Tucson once a year--say, in March--might be nice.)

Mike. No. Unpacking and getting settled is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I managed to fly at the Northwest Regionals in May, but still no proper workshop to build or do anything serious.

Oregon is beautiful, and I love it. But it is a longer drive to Tucson each March!

Do you know what the actual dimensions are? The CL Racers use those circles, too, and the AMA rules require an outer diameter of 77' to 78'. For the events which use 60' lines, the Outer circle is 76' and you have to service the model outside of that line, hence, the 77'-78' requirement.

Wonderful news! Now, if the trees could just be cut down!

Both Tucson and Dallas were CL paradise before any improvements.
Those unhappy with those fields should fly at some really poor places to understand how good they really have it.

Los Angeles and St. Louis aren't bad either.

The site at Scobee Field in Houston is just about perfect. Two continuous-pour (i.e., no joints) concrete circles of 78' radius, two large grass circles with concrete center pads, in the middle of the prairie with no obstructions for a looong way away. And the closest soccer field is "way over there!".

How many permanent cirsles are there on the west coast? We have two sites up here in Vancouver each with two circles. The others I know of are in Portland at Delta Park, one at the airport in Salem. Los Angeles and the new one near Napa. There must be more so where are they?

Ron. In Eugene, Oregon, we have at least 3 permanent asphalt circles and at least 3 grass circles. All surrounded by a locked fence and gate. The Northwest Regionals were held here for many years.

After the Elmonte contest, I flew the Lancair to Napa, CA to visit my 84 year old uncle and show him the Lancair. He is a 30,000 hour WWII, army air corps pilot who flew the B-25 from Sardinia to Italy, 50 missions under the cover of the Tuskeegee airmen. and United Airline pilot. After the visit, I tried to find that elusive flying circle in Napa. Dave Fitzgerald didn't return the call. Probably out of town and the local public offices were closed. I would have liked to try the new pavement.
